Chewing on a bone

Golden Retriever (Canis Lupus)

I saw Lindsay and Margaret training Rudolf on the Woodville Oval this morning, he is a Guide Dog in training. Margaret and Lindsay are a lovely older couple who decided, when the last retriever they owned passed away, that they wouldn't get another dog at their age. But living without a dog for the first time in 58 years of marriage wasn't easy. Now they are volunteers for Guide Dogs Victoria. Rudolf is the third pup they have trained, each stays for for about 14 months before going on to become a Guide Dog for someone with impaired vision.

Or the light eating dog, just kidding, but the impression especially on the black background there is not enough light. Our guide dog, Zita, has a fresh haircut, therefore the fur is quite short with little curls. The advantage, you can see the eyes, somehow. Reflection and absorption is highly dependent on the shape and of the hair and the light incidence. Set up in my living room, on top of a dog table and 2 lights from Elinchrom.

But the real challenge is to ‘direct’ Zita to sit up and try to get some reflections into the eyes.

Strobist Info, as for the setup, front an Elinchrom litemotiv, approx. 45 ° to the left as the main light, 2 strip boxes from the left and the right for the flanks of the dog. And on some of the pictures, there was an additional reflector opposite the main light, reflecting on of the strip lights.

As Background a black hole, sun bounce mini, sidelights metered 2 stops below the main light, the background was approx. 3 – 4 stops below the main light, doesn’t look like it, still had to process it a little darker in LR.

This life changer is still in training & enjoying the snow.

Good Boy....

Guide Dogs In Training.... there are special qualities that make a guide dog so well suited for a guide and companion. These traits have to be nurtured and developed from a very young age.

This particular pup was in training and showed great restraint, as there were children running all about with ice cream making quite the fuss. He stayed his ground and obeyed his masters command to "stay" followed by the verbal encouragement of "Good Boy".

Not an Easter Bunny, but our dog Sadie posing in a field of dandelions near Vancouver, BC, Canada

Happy Easter weekend to all of you!

About this photo: This is our 3 year old Labrador Retriever named Sadie. We got her at 7.5 weeks old with the purpose of raising her to become a service dog for the BC & Alberta Guide Dogs. She went off to advanced training, but after a month and a half they realized she was too distracted and she didn't qualify to become a service dog. We were offered to adopt her as our pet and that we did!

We truly enjoy having her around and I am so happy she our doggy now. Here she is posing for me in a field of dandelions and daisies.

This photo was taken with my cell phone while out for a walk.

Seen in Smiths Falls Walmart today when we stopped to get a few things after Mike's appt. for diagnostic Imaging. I made Mike take the cart so I could photograph the dog LOL

I appreciate each and every visit, comment and fave here on my little corner of Flickr. Have a super day!

Wilbur got the chance to see his brothers. Thanks to Fiona for travelling 5 hours with William and Joan for bringing Wilson to get the boys together. They hadn't seen each since they left the litter.

Airedoodle in Digital Watercolor. The Airedoodle is a mix between the Airedale Terrier and the Poodle. Fairly large in size, the Airedoodle will weigh on average between 40 and 60 pounds. The Airedoodle has a lot of energy and will require plenty of exercise to maintain good physical and emotional health.

This dog is a guide dog who provides mobility assistance to a visually impaired person. The photo was taken when he was being puppy raised prior to the commencement of his training as a guide dog. In my home state, New South Wales, Australia, Labradors are used as guide dogs. in some other places other breeds such as German Shepherds and Golden Retrievers are used.

Happy Friday and weekend!

Thanks for visiting. I am very grateful for the kind comments and faves.

I heard yesterday that Poppy has finished her guide dog training and is now living with Steve.

Merry Christmas from our home to yours!

About this photo: A Christmas photo of the pup we are training. It's been a while again since I have posted here, we've had so much snow and I have been stuck at home due to that. Some of you might remember that we welcomed a puppy into our home in May as we decided to become puppy raisers for the BC & Alberta Guide Dogs. It has been quite an amazing journey so far with some challenging times, but now at almost 9 months old she is turning into such a wonderful dog that will hopefully make someone's life a little easier in the future! ❤️

Last year we met a lady who has become a good friend. She is a puppy raiser for quite some time already and she is already raising her 5th puppy. The duty of puppy raisers is to teach these dogs proper house manners and some specific skills while they stay with your. When they are about 18 months old they will be going into advanced training. Which means we will have to return the dog and they go to full time trainers for the advanced training of the program. This is where they get really ready to become a guide dog for the blind/visually impaired people, a companion for children with autism or people with PTSD, etc...

Europe, Portugal, Algarve, Sotavento, Faro CP station, DMUs, Passengers, Guide dogs (cut from B&T, slightly cut from L&R)

Let's revisit the Sotavento portfolio, it almost feels nostalgic now. Also because in this guise, the depicted trains are lone gone from the CP rail network.

They’re DMU-2 (UDD-2 in CP parlance) diesel(-hydraulic) multiple units) of the 400 series of CP (Comboios de Portugal), built in 1981 by the Portuguese Sorefame (Sociedades Reunidas de Fabricações Metálicas) company in licence of the Budd company of Philadelphia USA. These DMU’s were the mainstay of CP’s Algarve fleet.

After a renovation in 1999, they became the 450 series that’s currently in operation on amongst other the ‘Ligna do Algarve’, the Algarve rail link between VRSA and Lagos.

This is number 24 of the Linha Algarve and 208 of the Sotavento one.
