GTW train #438 has a nice GP9R 4604 leading 3 GP38's through Delray in Detroit the morning of April 8, 1990.
At the crossroads of the Flint and Holly Subs, what was one of the busiest diamonds during the peak of the passenger era, Burdakin Blue has made a comeback. Leading L500 into Durand, the fresh heritage leader looks right at home as they prepare to work the yard before heading over to Flint for the night.
The last standing original GTW TR-2 signal still standing is a bit of a hidden gem that is very hard to shoot. After a little coordination, a proud engineer poses with his fancy ride graced in GTW Burdakin Blue next to the GTW original that has seen its fair share of GTW power over the years.
The humid evening still is briefly disturbed as CN's Hattiesburg, MS - Evanston, MS turn L543 rolls south across the Pascagoula River in Merrill, MS along the CN Beaumont Subdivision. Leading the train solo is GTW GP38-2 #5860, still wearing GTW's red/blue scheme.
Grand trunk Western train #450 rolls eastbound through Holly, Michigan with Bi-Centennial GP38AC 1776 leading a pair of GP9's and lots of open auto racks - December 19, 1976.
CN L518 works the Cameco spur in Port Hope, ON which is situated directly south of the classic stone station still standing from the Grand Trunk Railway era. A sight to see a part of the GTR and GTW side by side.
The spur being a small switch-back fitting only 2 units and 2 cars. A classic buffer style end of track fits the scene together nicely.
Nearing the Birmingham, Michigan depot is a late running eastbound train #420 running from Flint to Toledo, with hot auto frame loads up front including some on 50 ft. flats. Those loads would soon be riding only on rack equipped 86 ft. flats as on the first car on the train. The usual clean pair of SD40's 5910 and 12 are leading GP18 4702 this morning on the Holly Subdivision in the northern Detroit suburbs - April 16, 1976.
M337 pops out of the bluff and crosses the BNSF and its only 100' till the Mississippi River Bridge And crossing into Iowa for a short time.

Rounding the corner at Milwaukee Jct. in Detroit is GTW train #450 behind GP38AC 1776, CV GP9 4904 and a leased CN GP38 re-lettered GTW with a backdrop of the old "curved" Murray Building - March 30, 1978.

One of the most random trains to appear out of thin air in Northwest Indiana that I’ve had the pleasure of shooting…talk about being at the right place at the right time.
A trio of Grand Trunk & Western GP38-2s (4907/4933/6223) the head two being in Battle Creek Blue, are at the helm of an empty Pet Coke train bound for BP at Whiting, IN. Seen here heading west at “Cavanaugh” while getting off the CN Matteson Sub and onto the Calumet Spur, otherwise known as the CN Whiting Branch, about to duck under the busy Cline Avenue and cut away from Interstate 90 in Gary, Indiana. Taken: 3-7-22
You can always thank NWI for giving you the random trains, still to this day it’s my favorite place to roam cause you just really don’t know what you’re gonna get from each railroad.
Bij Waterhuizen een van de laatste rode GTW in het Noorden getroffen.
De Arriva GTW 348+347 zijn als trein 37855 bij Waterhuizen onderweg naar Groningen op 10-3-2022.
LDSX 7224 sits in Stuart Street Yard after being set off by CN 421 that morning. Alongside it is GTW 5849.
The 7224 and slug 269 are destined for GIO Rail in Welland. Both are ex CN.
Apparently yesterday on CSX, one of the CN heritage units painted in GTW's Battle Creek Blue got the world in a tizzie on the River Line. Back in 1990, on the "other" River Line, GTW power was a daily occurrence on the Central Vermont Mainline between St. Albans, VT and New London, CT. After the days of CV green and GTW Blue GP-9's, GT 5800 series GP38AC's became the primary power on the CV until around 1992. The slide is dated July 14, 1990 and my notes recall chasing the GMRC with GP-9's on XR-1 from Bellows Falls to Rutland and then doubling back for the CV northbound and chasing it to WRJ with Shaun McGinnis. Here "Extra GT 5803" and 4 mates hit the diamond at Bellows Falls, VT headed north up the Connecticut River valley with empty lumber and newsprint complete with a delux CN van on the rear.

Grand Trunk Western train #434 the overnite Chicago to Detroit run, this day heavy with piggys with SD40 5917 leading a CN GP38-2 5548. Here at a spot often occupied by GTW Northerns in the last days of steam here at the depot in Pontiac, Michigan - March 18, 1978.
For this one of my oldest slides which was a mess until I cleaned it up, here I climbed the train order signal for this shot of GTW train #416 at Royal Oak, Michigan behind 3 GP9's. The train was a turn out of Pontiac south to Detroit rounding the bend off the Holly Sub onto the Mt. Clemens Sub to Port Huron. It turned at Port Huron and returned south on the Mt Clemens to Richmond and ran across the Romeo Sub back to Pontiac - March 18, 1972.

Wind was whipping at Wilpen as the Keenan switch was in route to serve the Viking Explosives plant during a snowstorm. The best intentions proved futile, and the attempt was abandoned with the crew retuning back to the yard for another attempt for another day.
