My second trip to VIR. Wanted to improve on some shots from last year and find new angles. Happy to say that I had only 1 fence in my way.
This was also the first time really focusing on using the 400mm for an event since retiring the 100-400. Really didn't miss it or the convenience of a zoom. I am pretty happy with how this 25 year old lens performs.
Did we bless them with good luck?? After winning the Forgeline Spirit of the Race award at Watkins Glen, Rebel Rock Racing came back strong, just one week later, and claimed victory in the super-competitive IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge GS class at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. And in the process, they won the ForgelineSOTR again for the second week in a row! It was an incredible combination of great driving, flawless pit stops, and some lucky cautions that helped Frank DePew and Robin Liddell hustle their #71 Rebel Rock Racing Chevrolet Camaro GT4.R on Forgeline one piece forged monoblock GS1R wheels to the front, including a phenomenal performance by Liddell. And finishing just behind them in second place was another Forgeline GS1R-equipped machine, the #60 KohR Motorsports Ford Mustang GT4 piloted by Nate Stacy and Kyle Marcelli. It was a big weekend of GT4 America racing at Virginia International Raceway, where Forgeline teams once again dominated the Pirelli World Challenge GT4 Pro podium. On Saturday, it was Gar Robinson and Shane Lewis who took home second and third place trophies, with their no. 74 and no. 72 Robinson Racing Chevrolet Camaro GT4.Rs. A clash of the titans? It was an epic battle between Forgeline-equipped teams at this past weekend’s Pirelli World Challenge Championship 2017 GTS season finale, at Sonoma Raceway. In Saturday’s race, Ian James qualified on the pole and went flag to flag up front to earn his sixth win of the 2017 season in the #50 Panoz Avezzano on Forgeline one piece forged monoblock GS1R wheels. James then started on the pole again for Sunday’s race, and led most of the way -- until a restart on lap 15, when Lawson Aschenbach made a pass to claim the lead, which he held through lap 18 (when the race was halted early due an on-track accident). A clash of the titans? It was an epic battle between Forgeline-equipped teams at this past weekend’s Pirelli World Challenge Championship 2017 GTS season finale, at Sonoma Raceway. In Saturday’s race, Ian James qualified on the pole and went flag to flag up front to earn his sixth win of the 2017 season in the #50 Panoz Avezzano on Forgeline one piece forged monoblock GS1R wheels. James then started on the pole again for Sunday’s race, and led most of the way -- until a restart on lap 15, when Lawson Aschenbach made a pass to claim the lead, which he held through lap 18 (when the race was halted early due an on-track accident). Aschenbach was awarded the win, his second of the 2017 season, and officially earned the 2017 GTS-class driver championship (the third of his career), the 2017 GTS-class team championship (for Blackdog Speed Shop), and the 2017 GTS-class manufacturer championship (for Chevrolet) with his #10 Chevrolet Camaro GT4.R on Forgeline one piece forged monoblock GS1R wheels! Lawson started the weekend, at the Grand Prix of St Petersburg, with a 4th place qualifying effort, but managed to take the lead just 2 laps into Saturday's race. Despite a last lap challenge, he held onto his position long enough to claim the checkered flag. Saturday’s win also earned Aschenbach the pole position for the start of Sunday’s race, where a big wreck resulted in a red flag and early ending, leaving Lawson at the front of the field for his second win of the weekend! Trent Hindman and Alan Brynjolfsson earned their first win of the season in Saturday’s race, with their #77 Volt Racing Ford Mustang GT4. And then they followed up that successful effort again with a second place finish on Sunday.
