I spent a delightful Saturday with the Famous Flickr Five+ Group in the Yarra Valley, where we visited the picturesque Alowyn Gardens, which I had never heard of before, before having luncheon at the Yarrawood Winery.

The Alowyn Gardens are just outside Yarra Glen, east of Melbourne, in wine making country. The Alowyn Gardens started as weed and blackberry infested paddocks that were formerly part of a horse stud. The land was cleared in 1997 before revitalisation of the soil was conducted. Two years later in 1999 the first tree was planted. Today the Alowyn Gardens are well established, and provide an informative and educational experience for visitors. It has been designed with shade and comfort in mind. Plant names are on view to educate visitors about the gardens. The gardens have one of the largest Japanese Wisteria arbours as their centrepiece. Off it visitors may wander through seven very different styles of gardens, from the formal to the informal, European to Australian. The Native Garden is based on Australian plantings and features a dam and wetland area for animals, including a profusion of frogs and a great deal of birdlife. The Display Garden is a collection of courtyards and small gardens featuring collections of interesting plantings. The idea of the Display garden is to demonstrate what can be achieved in small spaces. The Edible Garden as the name suggests, shows that kitchen gardens can be beautiful as well as functional with rows of fruit trees, vegetable and medicinal gardens and a number of edible flowers that are both tasty and beautiful. The Birch and Casuarina Forest offers a woodland with enchanting hidden dells and contains a historical miner's hut. The Perennial Border contains herbaceous plants which are tough and hardy, survive with minimal work and are able to cope with Australia's hot summers and cold Yarra Valley winters. The Parterre Garden is based on the 15th Century French Renaissance design principles of low formal hedges formed into patterns. The French Provincial Garden is the largest of all the gardens and is surrounded by avenues of Chinese Elm, Crab Apple and Canadian Maple trees. It has large lawns, and a long water feature that runs the width of the garden.

Using part of Dasha’s garage as a photo studio!

Still working out lighting, and trying to get everyone in a group photo in focus with the fancy camera. Bit of a learning curve; I wonder if I should stick to phone camera photos for groups this large for now?

Oops! I forgot Tilda Brisby!!

I noticed this house when we're leaving the park. I felt like some children's tale came to life on that moment.

Remember me

Remember me with smiles and laughter,

For that's how I'll remember you.

If you can only remember me with tears,

then don't remember me at all.

Okay, I really need to re-do this. I had this cool black bg fabric at first but then I thought it might be too dark. But this one isn't good either... it's kind of dull and it wasn't wide enough so I had trouble fitting everyone in.

This took me about 1,5hrs, which is triple the time it took me to do my last group shot with _everyone_. This is just the non-human characters. The reason it took so long is that I had to do somet clothing changes and I wanted them to interract with eachother or somehow show some of their personality, but I couldn't do it as well as I'd wanted to. Because I had to cramp them in such a tight space. There are props but because of the colours you can't see most of them (like Seere's wine glass).

Delmia and Prisca kind of don't fit in because they're completely different scale and not in the same story (Muu too), but I added them anyway.

Virtual cake to anyone that can spot all the props. xD

Next time I'll have proper interraction for sure. -___-;;;

Nassau Grouper trying to swallow a Blue Tang. I saw this happening on Bloody Bay Wall in December 2001. The tang is stuck in the grouper's mouth. The tang looks like he's pleading for help.

This was shot with a Nikon N90s camera and a Nikon 60mm lens, with a Nikonos SB-105 strobe. It was one of the last times I shot film before going digital with a Nikon D100.

This photo was the "Your Best Shot" in the November 2003 Popular Photography Magazine.

We were chosen for the group cover!😍💓Thank you so much!!🙇‍♀️✨

So things were getting pretty squirrely the other day as I watched these critters put the 'wild' in wildlife.

It was hard to tell if these three were company - or if it was a crowd...

Okay, I'm done now. ;)

Sorry if I wasn’t too clear in my post, here’s the link above. Just saying, join only if you have the intention of entering.

I also know that’s why not a lot of people have checked the post yet, but either way, up to you.

And one last thing: You are allowed to use yellow hands and heads for your contest submission. That will be all.

We've had cloudy and rainy weather for the past 10 days, not conducive for photography. When I visited Mud Lake yesterday, the weather was no better, and all I could find were Mallards and Canada Geese. Mallards are very common in our area and are often ignored by photographers in favour of more exotic species. However, Mallard drakes in breeding plumage are some of the prettiest of our local waterfowl, as seen in this group photo of two drakes and a female.
