This wasn't on purpose, believe me ;) It was just another one of these difficult "free" themes that I didn't want to skip because I am a stone/mineral collector of sorts (I have been fascinated with minerals, rocks, and stones since childhood), and I have so many of them (some of which I've already photographed for MMs ruled out for this theme, of course) that, once again, I was overwhelmed. I had a few ideas which I couldn't get right the way I had envisioned, but late yesterday evening I thought "One last try!", and picked the dullest and at the same time weirdest-looking mineral that is in my collection. Unfortunately, I have forgotten the name of this specific mineral, and last night's research yielded no results. I can best describe its smooth, tumble-polished pattern as reminiscent of giraffe skin, oddly shaped greyish-brown opaque shapes segmented by semi-translucent white/light-grey, quartz-like "lines" that look like a net or mesh of river branches washing around the greyish-brown "islands". The closest type of mineral I found was septarium, so maybe that's it, but I'm not sure at all. I think, however, if you zoom in, you can see that it really is a tumbled gemstone and not some oddly-shaped Halloween pumpkin accessory ;)
So yesterday evening, when it already was completely dark outside, a miracle happened. I knew that the white "rivers" were a little translucent, but when I had backlit the stone in daylight, the effect wasn't particularly impressive. But in the darkness, with only a single small light source in the entire room, the rivers started to glow which totally transformed the dull-looking mineral into something almost alive. Hooray :) Maybe I should have done focus stacking instead of taking several single shots, turning the stone around to find its most "attractive" side (this weird-looking pumpkin face, obviously), but I think there's enough sharpness here, and the blurry parts add a somewhat molten look which, for me, enhances the impression of a red hot glow.
The orange-yellow glow is from the LED flashlight that I had placed directly behind the stone (the streak of blue behind the stone is also from the flashlight). I enhanced the saturation and overall vibrancy with the primary color sliders in LR, and in Color Efex, I used a few "Detail Enhancer" control points to bring out the texture. Size of the "maybe septarium, definitely pumpkin face": approximately 3x3 cm / 1,18x1,18 inches.

Gestern Abend wurde wieder geschnitzt. Es hat mal wieder riesig spaß gemacht. Um es etwas rauchig aussehen zu lassen habe ich mit Mehl und Blitzlicht gearbeitet. Ich hoffe euch gefällt das Resultat :) Was habt ihr schönes kreiert.
I was roaming recently, when I found a small mushroom. He stood there incospicuously, partly hidden beneath leafs, intimidated amid a pompous play of other plants, light and frost. Something was wrong though, as he showed an implied, mischievous grin. Suddenly a ray of light hit him, he shook of the leafs and started to glow! What a show! Luckily my jaw dropped right onto the shutter, otherwise I probably would have missed to take a picture.
Had to use a somewhat awkward composition here, to crop some bright light on the shroom's surface. ToDo: Buy a diffusor.

Neulich war ich unterwegs, als ich einen kleinen Pilz fand. Er stand da so unscheinbar, halb verborgen unter Blättern, eingeschüchtert inmitten einer Pracht aus anderen Pflanzen, Lichtspiel und Frost. Aber etwas stimmte nicht, er hatte so ein angedeutetes, verschmitztes Grinsen. Plötzlich traf ihn ein Sonnenstrahl, er schüttelte die Blätter ab und fing an zu leuchten! Was für ein Auftritt! Zum Glück klappte mir in dem Augenblick die Kinnlade auf den Auslöser, sonst hätte ich wahrscheinlich vergessen, ein Foto zu schießen.
Ich musste hier eine irgendwie seltsame Komposition wählen, um einiges helles Licht auf der Pilzoberfläche abzuschneiden. ToDo: Einen Diffusor kaufen.
Es ist nur ein Hüpfer nach links oder rechts. Und du wirst verrückt.

Im Garten steht eine Glaslibelle, die heute von einem ihrer lebendigen Pendants angeflogen wurde - und zwar immer wieder. Flog weg, kam zurück, flog weg, kam zurück...

Die beiden mussten an der Ampel bei Rot warten. Als ich sie sah musste ich grinsen, zeigte auf meine Kamera und beide nickten mit dem Kopf. Leider habe ich vergessen auf die Kennzeichen zu achten,woher diese netten Männer wohl kamen.

They had to wait at the traffic lights. When I saw them, I smiled, pointing at my camera and both nodded their heads. Unfortunately, I forgot to look at the signs, where these nice men came from.
This is Charlie's typical "grin" which he often shows when he smells something interesting. In this case he has probably spent too much time with the catnip plant on my roof terrace. :)

Ulrich Sonnenschein erweist sich als Bewunderer von T.C. Boyle, und zwar - wie der fröhliche Name zunächst nicht vermuten lässt - als Bewunderer des reifen, ernsteren Boyle, der sich in seinem neuen Roman so deutlich wie noch nie präsentiere. Boyles Thema sei nach wie vor das "grandiose Scheitern im Kleinen", aber der warme Humor, die frühere Einfühlsamkeit sei nun einer "klaren Analyse" und einem "zynischen Grinsen" gewichen, eine Entwicklung, die der Rezensent mit Wohlwollen verfolgt. Boyle sei mit "Drop City" ein "wirklich treffender" Roman über die sogenannte Gegenkultur der sechziger Jahre gelungen, der drastisch wie nie den Unterschied der verschiedenen Lebensrealitäten von verträumt lethargischen Hippies und dem Rest der Bevölkerung darstelle. Besonders imponiert Sonnenschein, dass Boyle sowohl analysieren als auch unterhalten kann. Drop City is a 2003 novel by American author T. Coraghessan Boyle. The novel, set in 1970, describes the social evolution of a group of counter-cultural free spirits, not unlike the inhabitants of the real Drop City community in Colorado, from which the novel apparently takes its name. However, Boyle's fictional group initially live in California and later move to a remote part of Alaska, and the group shares many qualities with the real Sonoma County Morning Star commune.[1] The novel was a finalist for the 2003 National Book Award.

(Now I'm not angry with you, if you do not read on – it's a bit long ;-))

Because of good leadership Robbie and Jack (You remember Robbies buddy with the permanent grin on his face?) were allowed to change their workplace in the prison to the laundry. It smelled like sweat and cheese feet, but it was a hit. They were in the right place to realize their outbreak. When disposing of old clothes, they were able to stash some rags unnoticed. By the way, they have had to give up the plan to break free through "Beam me up, Scotty" after a number of unsuccessful attempts. The energy of Jack had simply not lasted for two. Now they intended to make their escape in the usual old-fashioned way. So they braided a very long rope out of the scraps of fabric ... Then everything went very fast: In an unobserved moment they hid in the big laundry bags and when these were pushed through the corridor, they let themselves fall through a prepared hole, rolled to the toilet doors, tied the rope to the washbowl, and climbed out of the window. (You wonder why the windows were not secured? They were so rotten they could just be pried out of the wall, no one thought that a renovation of the 5th floor would be necessary, and there was a shortage of money anyway ...) And ... off they went! They came right past Robbie's cell window (As you may have noticed?) It was winter, so fortunately stock gloomy – but also damn cold. (Why didn't we take any wool blankets with us?) They landed without sprains and disappeared quietly, unobtrusively and – now both with a permanent grin on their faces – in the dark of the late afternoon. Nobody has seen them since ...

(Jetzt bin ich Euch nicht böse, wenn Ihr nicht weiterlest – ist etwas lang ;-))

Wegen guter Führung durften Robbie und Jack (Ihr erinnert Euch an seinen Kumpel mit dem Permant-Grinsen im Gesicht?) ihren Arbeitsplatz im Gefängnis in die Wäscherei tauschen. Hier roch es zwar etwas nach Schweiß und Käsefüßen, aber es war der Hit. Sie waren am richtigen Ort, um ihren Ausbruch zu realisieren. Bei der Entsorgung von alten Klamotten konnten sie unbemerkt ein paar Lumpen beiseite schaffen. Sie hatten übrigens den Plan nach etlichen vergeblichen Versuchen aufgeben müssen, sich durch "Beam me up, Scotty" zu befreien. Die Energie von Jack hatte einfach ncht für zwei gereicht. Nun beabsichtigten sie, ihre Flucht auf ganz gewöhnliche althergebrachte Art zu bewerkstelligen. Also flochten sie aus den Stoffresten ein ganz langes Seil ... Dann ging alles sehr schnell: In einem unbeobachteten Moment versteckten sie sich in den großen Wäschesäcken und als diese durch den Gang geschoben wurden, ließen sie sich durch ein vorbereitetes Loch fallen, rollten zu den Toilettentüren, zurrten das Seil an dem Waschbecken fest und kletterten durch das Fenster nach draußen. (Ihr fragt Euch, warum die Fenster nicht gesichert waren? Sie waren dermaßen morsch, dass man sie einfach aus der Mauer hebeln konnte. Niemand hatte gedacht, dass eine Renovierung im 5. Stock notwendig wäre und es mangelte sowieso an Geld ... ) Und ... ab ging die Fahrt! Sie kamen direkt an Robbies Zellenfenster vorbei (Wie Ihr vielleicht bemerkt habt?) Es war Winter, deshalb zum Glück stockduster – aber deshalb auch verdammt kalt. (Warum nur haben wir uns keine Wolldecken mitgenommen?) Sie landeten ohne Verstauchungen und verschwanden zusammen leise, unauffällig und – nun beide mit einem Permanent-Grinsen im Gesicht – im Dunkel des Spätnachmittags. Keiner hat sie seitdem gesehen ...

Macro Monday: #ComplementaryColours
Actually I wanted to do something with yellow and purple or blue for "Complementary Colours" (and why do I always end up writing "contemporary" or "contemplating" when I mean complementary?). The beautiful blue and yellow iris bouquet (something that has both colours in it!) in the flowerpot on the living room table, for instance, would have been perfect. But then I spotted this happy little red radish on my Sunday breakfast table, smiling at me broadly. "You lookin' for me?", it seemed to ask. "Yes, you do! I know it! Forget about those perfect iris blossoms. Forget about yellow and purple. Combine me with that grass mat, and you've got 80 percent complementemporaring colours, too. Plus, I've got that certain something, the X factor, that 'je ne sais quoi', haven't I?!?" "And what could that be?", I asked. "That toothless, toothpaste-defying smile, maybe? Hair - or what is that - in your face? That weird winking expression with only one eye open? Wait a minute, eye? What eye? You're a radish. Radishes don't have eyes. Do you think people will enjoy looking at you?", I grumbled, sensing that all my hopes of coming up with some other colour combination than the obvious red and green, and something with both colours in it on top of that, would be dashed. Dashed by a tiny, cheeky, ugly duckling type of radish. Because of pareidolia. A sign stimulus. My sign stimulus. "The tendency to interpret a vague stimulus as something known to the observer, such as seeing shapes in clouds, seeing faces in inanimate objects or abstract patterns, or hearing hidden messages in music" (Wikipedia), and immediately grab the camera and shoot. After all, it smiled at me. All the time. "But don't expect me to give you a name!", I snapped, and thought to myself "And I'll eat you after the photoshoot." "You aren't exactly a morning person, are you?", the little radish remarked wryly, and its smile got even broader. I'm sure it could read my mind.

Eigentlich wollte ich ja was mit Gelb und Lila machen. Eine der hübschen Iris-Blüten in der Vase auf dem Wohnzimmertisch z. B., gelb-violette Blüten, mit nur einem feinen weißen Streifen (80 Prozent!), perfekt. Aber dann lachte mich beim Sonntagsfrühstück dieses Radieschen an. Blinzelte mir frech zu, als wollte es sagen: "Hast Du nach mir gesucht? Klar hast Du. Vergiss die Blumen. 80 Prozent Komplementärfarben? Hast Du bei mir auch. Und dann noch mein unschlagbares Lächeln. Mein Siegerlächeln!" Sein Grinsen wurde breiter. "Ach ja?", grummelte ich. "Du meinst wohl 'Das zahnloseste Lächeln seit es Zahnpasta gibt'. Und was ist das da in Deinem Gesicht? Haare? Findest Du Dich etwa attraktiv? Und dann dieses Blinzeln, ein Auge zu, das andere offen? Und überhaupt 'Auge'. Du bist ein Radieschen, Du hast keine 'Augen', nicht mal eins. Ich mach' die Blumen!" Aber da wusste ich schon, dass Es gewonnen hatte. Der Schlüsselreiz, nein, mein Schlüsselreiz: Pareidolie. Das "Phänomen, in Dingen und Mustern vermeintliche Gesichter und vertraute Wesen oder Gegenstände zu erkennen" (Wikipedia). Es hatte mich an der Angel. Als hätte Es meine Gedanken gelesen, wurde sein breites Grinsen noch ein bisschen breiter, fast vermeinte ich, ein diabolisches Lachen zu hören. "Aber glaub' bloß nicht, dass ich Dir auch noch einen Namen gebe. Und nach dem Fotoshooting wirst Du verspeist!" "Du bist aber ein echter Morgenmuffel, was?", lachte es. Das Siegerlachen.

Georgia/Abkhazia, Gagra, 2006-09-01, Russische Touristen am Strand von Gagra, einem alten Kur- und Ferienort Abchasiens. Abchasien erklärte sich 1992 unabhängig von Georgien. Nach einem einjährigen blutigen Krieg zwischen den Abchasen und Georgiern besteht seit 1994 ein brüchiger Waffenstillstand, der von einer UNO-Beobachtermission unter personeller Beteiligung Deutschlands überwacht wird. Trotzdem gibt es, vor allem im Kodorital immer wieder bewaffnete Auseinandersetzungen zwischen den Armeen der Länder sowie irregulären Kämpfern.

Hab ne kleine alte Canonlinse EF 35-80 mm, 4-5.6 III gefunden, ein "lustiges" & charmantes Ding, von 2011, technisch gesehen ziemlich veraltet, dennoch irgendwie charmant und für diese Spielerei gestern mit dem Hund zum testen irgendwie lustig. Vielleicht scheint der Hund deshalb zu grinsen? 😂 Übrigens ist er wohl ein Herbsttyp, verschmilzt gerade farblich gut mit seiner Umgebung 😅🍀
Der kleine Supermarkt.
Unsere Enkel kennen und lieben ihn.
Unterhalb der Frischwaren für Joghurt, Marmelade, Eier, Sprühsahne, Fleisch- und Leberwurst, Limonade, Fruchtsäfte und Cola, befindet sich die Tiefkühlabteilung mit Pizza, Fischstäbchen, Chicken-Nuggets und verschiedene Eissorten. Nebenan gibt es Nutella, Schoko-Streusel, Stroop und Obst, im Wohnzimmerschrank ist die Süsswarenabteilung. Hier wird sich ein bis zweimal täglich das geholt, was Enkelkinder so brauchen. Alles Sonderangebote zum Nulltarif. Mit einem breiten Grinsen im Gesicht und einem freundlichen „tschö Oma, tschö Opa“ verlassen sie den kleinen Supermarkt so schnell wie sie gekommen sind.

Below the fresh produce for yogurt, jam, eggs, spray cream, meat and liver sausage, lemonade, fruit juices and cola, there is the deep-freeze department with pizza, fish fingers, chicken nuggets and various types of ice cream. Next door there is Nutella, chocolate sprinkles, stroop and fruit, in the living room cupboard is the confectionery department. Here one or two times a day you can get what grandchildren need. All special offers for free. With a big grin on their faces and a friendly "bye grandma, bye grandpa" they leave the small supermarket as quickly as they came.
