I always love to find old buildings and grain elevators, and these are right in my city. I’m sure there are some stories to be told here, especially if we look deep enough.
but it is mainly the outcome of the need we have felt for making democracy such a good thing, like a scrubbed and shining schoolboy. Actually democracy partakes of the sweat and blood of the real world. It is grimy and dangerous and will never survive until it can learn to understand the ways of bullies and take its own part. I happen to care for it not because of any moral perfection it may have, but because it is by and large the best instrument I know for giving us the kind of world we want to live in :-)

A look at the older, grimier part of the city of Springfield. Mostly silent now, the tracks empty. Graffiti and vines beginning to make an appearance. Wondering what the future may hold, but clinging to the past....that’s what I see.

Burns’ original Scots verse written in 1788,
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
and never brought to mind.
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
and auld lang syne,
CHORUS:
For auld lang syne, my jo,
for auld lang syne,
we’lltak‘ a cup o’ kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.
And surely ye’ll be your pint-stoup!
and surely I’ll be mine!
And we’ll tak' a cup o’ kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.
CHORUS
We twa hae run about the braes,
and pou’d the gowans fine;
But we’ve wander’d mony a weary fit,
sin' auld lang syne.
CHORUS
We twa hae paidl’d in the burn,
frae morning sun till dine;
But seas between us braid hae roar’d
sin' auld lang syne.

Working in the grimy conditions of a Great Western Railway MPD. A Timeline Events photo charter inside the Loco Shed at Didcot Railway Centre
On the last day of my holiday I decided to visit Leake street graffiti tunnel. And as I mentioned before new art works had appeared, only the ceiling remained as it was before.
A little bit more about the tunnel:
Leake Street Tunnel is one of London’s coolest street art spots. Tucked away underneath Waterloo station, it’s an ever-changing canvas of colourful murals.
This 300 metre tunnel is the city’s largest legal graffiti wall and has been a bastion of London’s street art scene since 2008.
Leake Street Tunnel wasn’t always a legal wall. Before 2008 it was just a dank and grimy tunnel squirrelled beneath Waterloo Station.
That all changed when British street art superstar Banksy (yes, the Banksy) decided to hold a street art festival called Cans Festival down in the tunnel.
Banksy invited the biggest and brightest names on the international street art scene to come down and put up a piece of work in the tunnel. And that was it – Leake Street was no longer dank and grimy, but instead a bold, colourful and cool place where artists could showcase their work.
Since then, Leake Street graffiti tunnel has been flying the flag for the London street art scene. The fact that this is a legal wall means that artists can work in peace and that no two visits are ever the same.
The sheer number of artists who work on the tunnel means that there is always something new to see. Sometimes it’s sad to say farewell to old favourites, but the upside is a dynamic series of pieces that draw artists from around the world.

Virginia Creeper / Parthenocissus quinquefolia, dangling over (lovely) grimy garage windows. ;-)
I have a couple of these shots and I could decide what to post first so I pointed at my laptop screen and picked this.
This shot confirms that not everywhere in the Teesside environs is smoggy and grimy.
Dogtrot Houses are modest American homes that were built in the 19th and early 20th centuries. They feature a curious design—two front doors.

I grew up in a house with 2 front doors, but the reason was because my parents enclosed the garage and made it into a family room. They added the door so all of us grimy kids could come into the house without traipsing the outdoors into the formal living room.

Class 33s were frequent visitors to the Berks & Hants line until the end of the trains from Meldon Quarry in Devon in the early 1990s.
By 2014 they were rare visitors. Around that time, VolkerRail, the specialist plant supplied to Network Rail contracted WCRC to move their cranes. This was one such move.
Colourful buoys seen on the side of an abandoned boat left to decay. The once attractive blue of the boat's hull, now discoloured ,the peeling paint, the rust eating into this once proud vessel. Yet the grimy and dirty coloured buoys caught my photographic eye.

As CP G13 switches Northern Maine Junction on the former Bangor and Aroostook overhead, ST NMWA prepares to depart for Waterville behind a ragtag lashup of grimy Pan Am motors including a C40-8 third out. Mechanical issues with the fourth motor would push the train's departure out of NMJ back by an hour.
From a slide taken in August 1984 on a walk around London, we have the taxi rank entrance to Liverpool Street station to the right, and the large and grimy Broad Street station the next building down.
A real image of change, by the end of 1986 Broad Street station was no more making way for the Broadgate development, and Liverpool Street station is very different now as well.
Although long changed, it reminds me of my first years at work where this was simply a daily scene.
Always take photos of your area. You think things will stay the same but they rarely do.

The back part of this Valencian CAF tram (operated by Metrovalencia) is somewhat grimy and battered, but it does posses a lounging sofa. It made us remember the similar area of the first generation TGV Atlanltique ;-)
This is number 36 of the Valencia album.
Thirty-two years ago, my beloved mother gifted me an address book, that had a handmade padded fabric cover complete with flowers on the front. It was so pretty that I tucked it away so it wouldn't get grimy from handling. In this photo you see just under a three-inch portion of the book on its longest side.
Wishing everyone HMM! and a happy week ahead.

The Haymarket station of 1977 cuts a dour and depressing sight when compared to the vibrant, light and airy station of today - and indeed a walk down to platform level would reveal a spartan, grimy and uncared for scene that only added to the depression.
Today's structure has embraced the best of this elegant facade but, together with a new and enhanced building immediately behind, has transformed the station into an appealing, busy and altogether more confident space with coffee vendors, news-stands, and a waiting area that caters to the needs and expectations of today's traveling public. More importantly it (together with the electrified railway system) is entirely in keeping with the upmarket business and conference area that Haymarket has become. Just a pity, for the rail enthusiast at least, those blue Scottish Region BR totems didn't make the cut!
In this scene, perhaps as interesting as the building are the two cars on the left. Nearest the camera is what appears to be a then fairly common Vauxhall Viva 2-door saloon - the number plate of RES 23J suggests it was registered in Perthshire sometime in 1970/71.
The car behind is even more interesting, and certainly nowhere near as common. To my untrained eye, I'm guessing a Ford Zodiak Mk IV Executive - but am open to correction. The 'K' suffix on the number plate indicates it would have been registered in 71/72.
Despite it being 10.25am everything looks pretty quiet here, so perhaps no surprise it was a Sunday. I took the shot after visiting Haymarket Depot - my next port of call would be Edinburgh Waverley before heading out Stirling way.
There's a bit of vertical distortion, which I opted not to correct to avoid losing detail from the sides of the image.
