Stopped by Kerry park yesterday to grab this shot of Jay Buhner raising a 24 flag in honor of Ken Griffey Jr. being inducted into the MLB Hall of Fame. Growing up with parents both being Seattle sports fans I was big into Griffey when I was growing up. The jerseys, the posters, the rookie cards! I loved 'The Kid', I was a true fan and still feel good everytime I see his smile. Congrats!
On the Bainbridge Island to Seattle ferry. We were going over for our son's BD and to take Elijah to a Mariners game to see Ken Griffey Jr.
This was just off Bainbridge Is. It got MUCH worse. In fact, after we got into Seattle, we found out the ferry before us had hit the dock, taking both ferry and dock out of service on the Seattle slip. Coming back home there was quite a backup.
I didn't notice the little bird when I took this, but it had the right idea to sit it out.
The Seattle Mariners permanently retired Edgar Martinez's number eleven last Saturday, the third in this young franchise's history along with Jackie Robinson and Ken Griffey Jr. It was a love fest at the park with lot's of memories and moments being shared, but for me, the grounds crew upstaged the show. The lines are amazing, the home plate in center field and you probably see the #11, but if you look closely you'll see that it is Edgar in batting stance, his name across the top and the outline of the jersey mown (I thought that was a word, I'm leaving it) into the lawn. Fantastic job folks, it looked amazing. :-)
Well kids, as a guy who grew up in Saint Louis watching a team that played in the American Association from 1882-1891 and then the National League when Major League Baseball began in 1892 I've witnessed and walked among baseball history all my life. Outside of Busch Stadium are statues of Stan "The Man" Musial, Enos Slaughter, Dizzy Dean, Rogers Hornsby, Red Schoendienst, Lou Brock, Bob Gibson and Ozzie Smith; former St. Louis Browns player and Hall of Fame inductee George Sisler; former Negro league St. Louis Stars player and Hall of Fame inductee Cool Papa Bell; and former Cardinals radio broadcaster and Hall of Fame honoree Jack Buck. On Thursday Arpil 13th 2017 the Seattle Mariners unveiled their first statue of their first Hall of Fame player, Ken Griffey Jr. (HOF Broadcaster Dave Niehaus has a nice one inside) The word was that in 1995 that baseball would leave Seattle unless we built them a new stadium and it wasn't looking good until the Mariners led by the kid with the sweet swing got hot and reminded everyone how great this game is. Safeco Field is a marvel and a joy to attend and baseball thrives still in the Pacific Northwest.

This handsome big boy is named Griffey. Like a Griffin, he can be fierce / overexcited, and doesn't like his fur (or feathers!) ruffled, but he really enjoys human company. Other felines, not so much. He's an adult who found a new home 2 July 2019.

The Kid- my childhood hero, the greatest baseball player that ever lived, your favorite player's favorite player- received a five minute standing ovation for his many years of service on and off the field in Seattle.

This solitary sandpiper came really close to where I was sitting and was looking for food in the water beside the shore.
The quintessential moment of opening day for me, I knew I had this in camera right away. this guy had moved to Boise and came back up this weekend to hawk programs, got me for five bucks and a dollar tip for the shot.
Ken Griffey is going into the HOF with the highest percentage of votes all time. should have been one hundred percent, but whateva!
