Shot at dusk just prior to the start of the 106th Grey Cup game between the Calgary Stampeders and the Ottawa RedBlacks. I was fortunate to get some underside lighting here from the pre-game fireworks as it was getting dark. It was surprisingly mild for late November in Edmonton, as the Calgary Stampeders defeated the Ottawa RedBlacks 27-16 on an icy field.
Beauty day here in "the Hammer" for the Eastern Division Final at Tim Hortons Field. The 15-3 Hamilton Tiger-Cats take on the 8-10 Edmonton Eskimos to decide who goes to the 107th Grey Cup in Calgary, Alberta next Sunday.
The Tiger-Cats completed a perfect record at home going 10-0 in defeating the Edmonton Eskimos 36-16 this afternoon to win the Eastern Division Final and book their ticket to next Sunday's 107th Grey Cup. GO CATS GO!
Note: The picture here is from last year when the Tiger-Cats defeated the BC Lions 40-10.

Following the Olympics the stadium will be temporarily closed while it is outfitted with a retractable roof.
I'll never forget watching the 1994 Grey Cup here, with Lui Passaglia kicking the game winning field goal as time expired.

I am doggone proud to announce that, after winning their Eastern Conference final yesterday (Sunday Nov 22), our CFL (Canadian Football League) Ottawa franchise has reached the finals for the first time since 1981 (a loss; last win was 1976): The Ottawa Redblacks will play the Edmonton Eskimos this Sunday November 29 in Winnipeg for the 103rd Grey Cup.
Here I've got on my cheering jersey, cap, and game face, and there's my R-Nation Terrible-Towel for wiping Edmonton tears when they lose, my mini Redblacks football for chewing on nervous plays, Dad's football for him to chew on nervous plays, our Redblacks flag for waving during good plays and after we win, and a 3/4 sized 3-D replica of Canada's magnificent CFL trophy, the Grey Cup.
Because we're good sports. we'll say good luck to Edmonton--though not too much luck--and GO REDBLACKS!
Update, December 1 2015: The Ottawa Redblacks were defeated by the Edmonton Eskimos 26-20 in the 103rd Canadian Football League Grey Cup championship game played November 29 in Winnipeg.
Clancy has taken it well, and says we'll get 'em next year!
Calgary Stampeders!!
Celebrations were held today in front of the Calgary City Hall for the Grey Cup winning Calgary Stampeders. I took an early and extra long lunch break to watch the party!

Tomorrow is the big game in Canadian football. The home team is hosting the game at BC place.
Not often the Grey cup game is the home city of one of the teams.

This street performer in the French Quarter reminds me that today is our big game in Canada.
The Grey Cup, our version of the Super Bowl, will be played outdoors in Edmonton Alberta with a predicted temperature of -9 celsius or 15 Fahrenheit.
Now while our game does not quite rival that of the Super Bowl there are 3 fundamental differences in how the game is played....they are:
1. We have an extra 10 yards of field play = longer distance to the touchdown!
2. We have one less down, only three = harder to advance plays down the field!
3. We have (6) percent beer = :-)))))))
Just saying!!....

Hello friends, happy Saturday :)
Rainy & grey here, but the view of the huge "Christmas trees" outside our bedroom windows is charming & comforting.
Since yesterday I have been wondering whether you'd like to share a cup of comfort with me... {as blogged}
Some already accepted the invitation & we shared some nice virtual times together.
Have we connected on Fb yet? You can find me here - just pass by to say hello! : )
Wishing you one great weekend filled with comfort ~

On Parliament Hill, Ottawa.
To my surprise on a lunchtime walk... I had the plesure of meeting Henry Burris, former quarterback for Ottawa's Red Blacks, reigning 2016 Grey Cup Champion team.
Anyone who's Canadian knows there is a football game between Saskatchewan and Montreal today called the Grey Cup. My money is riding on the Roughriders. Go Riders Go!
It doesn't get much more Canadian than a couple of Mounties parading around the CFL's Grey Cup on Parliament Hill.
The Mounted Patrol Unit (MPU) was established in January of 2010 as an operational police unit. The officers receive a Basic Equitation riding course from the Toronto Police Service where they are educated on horsemanship, riding skills and roadwork.
The mandate of the MPU is to offer high visibility policing, crowd management and active crime prevention in the City of Hamilton. The MPU also works closely with the Police Services’ Action Team to respond to areas identified by hotspot analysis that require focused proactive patrol.
The priorities of the MPU are to heighten the Service’s ability to accomplish:
crime prevention
managing entertainment districts
conducting search and rescue
providing park and trail safety
The MPU consists of 5 horses, 4 full time officers and 4 spare officers in order to ensure year round coverage. The Unit deploys 8 shifts per week, covering; day, afternoon and night shifts.
The horses are all Percheron and Percheron-cross geldings which stand between 17'3 and 18'1 hands high (about 6 feet tall at their withers).
The horses names are all historically significant to the City of Hamilton:
Lincoln - In memory of The Honourable Lincoln Alexander, former Lieutenant Governor of Ontario
Griffin - After the Griffin House in Dundas, part of the Underground Railroad
RHLI - Royal Hamilton Light infantry, pronounced Riley. We support our troops!
MacNab - Sir Allan MacNab fought in the War of 1812 as a 14 year old boy, lived at Dundurn Castle and was former Premier of the Province of Canada
Argyll - Named after The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders of Canada (Princess Louise’s), Argyll honours the close connection between the Hamilton Police Service and the local regiment.

Half an hour after sunset, the sky was pretty dim, but the fireworks were an unexpected and ultimate flash.
