Have a wonderful Thursday !
The same Greater Butterfly-orchid (Platanthera chlorantha) taken this Sunday (left) and week ago (right). The white-greenish inflorescence of these attractive and relatively tall orchids looks spectacular above and within green grasses. Yet, when not in bloom, they are inconspicuous and well blended with surrounded grassland.
Each flower when fully opened resembles a flying butterfly that gives this orchid its common name. This resemblance can be seen from the image taken few years ago. (www.flickr.com/photos/sergeysmirnov/7374490276/). The genus name ‘Platanthera’ means in Greek ‘broad anthers’ with reference to its broadly spaced pollinia, and epithet ‘chloranta’ means ‘green-flowered’. Martin Down NNR, Hampshire, England, UK.
I made my annual pilgrimage to the university campus ponds for a fresh stash of lily photos a couple of days ago, but a tiny white butterfly had other plans for me. Flitting and skittering around, he completely stole the show.
This was my first time pairing the 40-150mm lens with the focus bracketing and stacking feature on my Olympus, and I don't think it performed too badly.
I hope this little flutterbug’s elegance makes you smile as much as it did me. 🌿
Many thanks for every fave and comment, I appreciate them all!
So, imagine if you had a fear of flowers, Anthophobia, and a fear of snow, Chionophobia, how would you be with these Snowdrops! I wonder if it would be twice as scary, or if they would cancel each other out? And if you suffer from Trypophobia as well then the texture here probably isn't helping. And listing out all those phobias is probably going to scare those peep's who have hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia (a fear of long words, but it's such a cool sounding word and lots of fun to try and pronounce, especially if you are merry ;)
Do you have any phobias? Besides reading my captions that is? I suffer from Cenosillicaphobia , running out of beer ;)
Cheers

Thank you to everyone who pauses long enough to look at my photo. Any comments or Faves are very much appreciated.
Feeling walled in, like many others, but at least I can look at the first blossoms on my evergreen clematis! Stay safe everyone!

So far this winter we have only had one day of a light snow and there is not that much on the local mountains.I was out fro a walk and never get tired of this view. I climbed to the top of this mountain in 1997 and the view down is fantastic.
This tiny orchid was not named until 1987 and is the first Cyrtostylis to flower starting in June. Often found in dense forests where it enjoys a little shade. reaching up to 300mm in height. This particular one was found in the Stirling Range NP.
