A pair of Green Tiger Beetles mating. They are fast-moving beetles and love hot, sunny areas. They have large jaws and are voracious predators.
Many thanks to all who take the time to view, comment or fave my images.
Out and about with Wayne Withers. A first for me. And a pleasure to see. A big thank you to Wayne for lending me his macro lens. A pleasant day out although he fell flat on his backside coming down a mountain, and moaned all day about the hike. Such beautiful scenery and views, I don't know what his problem is 😁
A quick trip out to Poldar Moss today but it was too hot, particularly when sitting in the full sun trying to photograph dragonflies. Nice to see the Green Tiger Beetles out in force.

I can run at speeds of 60 cm per second but some of my cousins can run at speeds of 9 km/h (5.6 mph), which, relative to its body length, is about 22 times the speed of an Olympic sprinter, the equivalent of a human running at 480 miles per hour ; )
The two wings of this beetle were different coloured & I think one of the wings may have been damaged.

I'm really pleased with this find today because I wasn't aware of them in this area.
Look at those colours; Green, Turquoise, Red Pink. It's like an explosion in a make-up factory !

Came across this little beastie on my afternoon dog walk.....never seen one of these before even though they are said to be common.
The Green Tiger Beetle is a common ground beetle of heathland, moorland, sandy grassland and sand dunes. Often seen in bright, sunny conditions during the spring and summer, the Green Tiger Beetle is a fast, agile hunter, running across the ground to catch its invertebrate prey, including spiders, caterpillars and ants. It is well-equipped to tackle its prey with a ferocious set of jaws and long legs that give it an impressive turn of speed (it's one of our fastest insects). When disturbed, they will often fly a short distance before running away.
Tiger beetle larva awaiting his next meal! Had to lie on the ground very still for a few minutes before he felt secure enough to stay at the entrance hole!
