Green Sandpiper WWTSlimbridge

What luck. This Greenie flew into the reeds just as I was looking there for one. Only stayed for a few seconds before it disappeared deeper into the marshy habitat.

Green Herons can be found in wooded ponds and marshes and are often seen standing motionless at water’s edge as they hunt for fish and amphibians. As opposed to great blue herons and great egrets, Green Herons do not generally wade in water but rather stand on vegetation or solid ground to forage. Although some individuals may not be too bothered by human presence, obstructions by marsh vegetation and their distance from viewing point often make them difficult to get clear shots of. However, they will occasionally perch higher on trees, generally leafless trees (snags) to gain safety, rest, preen or just to get a bird eye view of the area below. Whatever the objectives of the bird may be in such a circumstance, I see it as a great opportunity to photograph the bird from below its location as well as in flight per shown herein, for the bird does not generally remain an any given place very long during day time.

The tiny trail in the distance is actually the "White Rim Road", part of a 100 mile (160km) four wheel drive road that loops around below the Island in the Sky section of Canyonlands National Park.

As the sun sinks low in the sky a trio of westbound trains gather in front of UP's Green River depot awaiting the dispatchers discretion. From left to right we have the ZSKDLP on main one (itself being split into the ZSKDLP/ZGRWAP), the KG3LB on main two, and finally the KG1LAC on main four. At right the afternoon westend switch engine, YGR22R, goes about their days work with SD40Ns 1853 and 1841.

Green herons live along forested water margins. Their general distribution is limited by the availability of wetlands. They frequent both salt and fresh water, showing great flexibility in habitat choice. Favored habitats are mangrove-lined shores and estuaries, and dense, woody vegetation fringing ponds, rivers and lakes.

Taken in the small but fascinating Schau- und Sichtungsgarten Hermannshof.

The Schau- und Sichtungsgarten Hermannshof (2.2 hectares), also known as the Hermannshof Weinheim, is a botanical garden in Weinheim, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. It is open daily in the summer and weekdays in the winter, and admission is free.

Today's garden was first established as a private garden over 200 years ago. It was acquired by the Freudenberg industrialist family in 1888, and in the 1920s, it was redesigned by landscape architect Heinrich Friedrich Wiepking-Jürgenmann. In 1981 to 1983, it was again redesigned as a public garden by landscape architect Hans Luz of Stuttgart. It is now a scientific institution jointly owned by the Freudenberg Company and the town of Weinheim.

The garden cultivates about 2500 taxa arranged in naturalistic plantings, including two theme gardens: a peony collection (created 1998) and North American prairie garden (2001, 1500 m²) containing over 350 plants. It also contains a number of notable trees, including specimens of Platanus orientalis and Platanus × hispanica that are over 230 years old, as well as Cedrus atlantica, Ginkgo biloba, Magnolia denudata, Magnolia × soulangeana, Myrtus communis, and Sequoia dating from the late 19th century.
