It is native to Mexico, the Caribbean, and northern and western South America, and has been introduced to Brazil, Taiwan, many Pacific islands, and the US states of Hawaii, Louisiana and Florida. Its popularity as an ornamental has led to it becoming invasive in places as far flung as Papua New Guinea.
Ruellia blechum grows as a herb to 70 cm in height when in flower. The complete, perfect, zygomorphic flowers are arranged in axillary and terminal quadrangle spikes. Each flower is subtended by an ovate, pubescent leaf like bract.
Just two weeks ago, this was brown and dry (just like the rocks), and some rain turned this into this beautiful green landscape..
