Friday night at the Doubledoor in Chicago I caught up with some Crankshaft.
If you dig the blues you'd dig this guy.
Alex Larson is 'Crankshaft'... a one man blues band comin' from Minneapolis...
and you thought fumblin' with all your camera's buttons in the dark took coordination?
You gotta see this guy do what he does!
I watched the dude play two drums, the cymbals, a tambourine, a guitar and a kazoo while singing!
I don't know how to explain how he played the kazoo while singing but he did.
He was watching me drink a beer and shoot him with my Nikon.
That took everything I got.
A 'one man band' is a pretty interesting show.
You can't exactly run around on stage because your feet are workin' the drums.
Alex's playin' was great and his vocals were strong... he had a great sense of humor... and I really just watched him while I shot and wondered how in the hell he could do all that.
All at once.
That's some serious 'zen'... to be able to keep all of that shit straight...
It's kind of crazy.
Crankshaft is like a blues playin', suit wearin' voodoo dancer.
The show was a riot... the crowd was lovin' it and the place was rowdy and loud.
Everything a Friday night in the Chi-Town should be.
You couldn't help but be feelin' the love.

Eurovision preparation is well underway in Liverpool and the City has proudly and fully commited to it.
This afternoon saw a kid's festival at the Eurovision fan village on the waterfront led by the BBC, and featuring 'Andy and the Band', of whom Robert, Dave and Carol are all big fans.
I offered to ride in the car with them in case they were unable to get parked easily and I'd drive the car home. As it goes parking in Mount Pleasant was no problem, and needing steps I walked down with them to go and see the Village, and as it was free entry I went in.
This stage is epic and the sound quality was absolutely superb. The screens are the most amazing outdoor screens I've seen, operating in clear visibility even in bright sunlight.
Here you can see a CBeebies animation teaching us some Ukrainian and welcoming people. The vibe down there was just beautiful, and even though I only stayed about twenty minutes as I have a timetable to write it was great to say I've been.
