I am not in the SW and am missing seeing Roadies, The best alternative was to generate new posts from my archives. Here is one from my last visit to California.

Two more Arizona shots this evening. This Greater Roadrunner and a Cactus Wren.

A shot from a years ago - - one of my first encounters with a Roadrunner - - the first sighting was typical running down the road with a lizard - - but the second sighting was standing on the barbed wire top of a chain link fence at Henderson's Sewage Ponds - when I approached it flew straight into the trees for this shot.

I missed Cinco de Mayo by a week but my two posts tonight have a SW flavor in a belated recognition. Further, Roadrunners are one of my favorite species to photograph.

One of the greater roadrunners in Big Bend National Park.

This little guy was a trip!!! He came right up to us and followed us around!! I know people had been feeding him. I wanted some roadrunner photos but they were always running away so fast when they saw us.....until I encountered this beautiful bird!!! :-)

Greater roadrunner bird in the ZooAmerica. Finally, after all the running got him perched over the rock for few minutes. Added a texture because I didn't like the background.

Thanks for your visit and taking the time to comment, very much appreciated! 🙋‍♀️

Roadrunners always seem so proud when they catch a bite to eat.

Los correcaminos siempre parecen muy orgullosos al capturar algo de comer.

Its cryptic colouration allows it to blend so well into the desert landscape habitat in which it lives.

Roady in aerodynamic pose including flattened crest. Always a joy to see and photograph.

Greater Roadrunner seen in my neighborhood in New Mexico. His beak has purple juice on it from munching on prickly pear cacti.

It is always a pleasure to see and photograph a Greater Roadrunner.

A greater roadrunner in the rather beige desert in which it lives. I kind of like these tough birds. This one had a hoard of photographers gathered around it. They're not uncommon, but not an everyday sight either.

Greater Roadrunner, The City of Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve, Henderson, Nevada. The Greater Roadrunner is officially classified as Geococcyx californianus. The cartoon Roadrunner (meep meep) has been designated on different occasions as Accelerati incredibilus, Velocitus tremenjus, Birdibus zippibus, Speedipus rex and Morselus babyfatious tastius. A Roadrunner's top speed is 20 mph, while Coyotes can reach speeds of up to 43 mph. My whole childhood was a big fat lie...

As 2022 winds down, I'm posting a series of shots from each of our six trips taken during the year, in chronological order.

Our second trip included a few days in southern Arizona where we found this Greater Roadrunner along a trail in Saguaro National Park.

I would have preferred a pose with this guy facing just a little more to the right. But my time with him was very brief as it ran across the trail, paused for about 2 seconds and then scurried toward the nearest cover. So this will have to suffice.

I grew up watching the roadrunner cartoon..beep beep..our spring weather came to a screeching halt yesterday with snow and ice 😕..I will assess damages to the spring flowers in a few days...Thank you very much for viewing my photo ! I truly appreciate any faves and comments ! 🐦

I spotted this Roadrunner speeding toward us from a distance away. Every so often, it would stop, survey the situation, then, to my surprise, kept coming. Twice, it took up a threatening stance, determination in its eyes. Seconds after I took this shot, it flew about 18 inches off the ground and, within three feet of me, disappeared into the bushes, no doubt to its waiting chick.

I have posted two members of the Cuculidae family tonight, this roady and a Black-billed Cuckoo, posted to the right. The Cuckoo family also includes the European cuckoo, koels, malkohas, couas, coucals and anis.

My two posts are quite different in appearance but both have long tails and sturdy curved bills. The wings also look somewhat similar in certain poses. Behaviorally, both could be described as "quirky" and "entertaining."

Not for long, but a Greater Roadrunner paused on a rock in the Chisos Basin of Big Bend National Park, Brewster County, Texas.

Too bad New Mexico already snagged this as their State Bird. Cactus Wrens are cool, but I think a Roadrunner would of been perfect for the state of Arizona
