The importance of pasture to horses.

Horses are grazing animals and most horses meet their nutritional needs from cool-season grass pasture or hay.

Forages are an important part of the equine diet and more than 80% of horses have some pasture access. There are many benefits for horses grazing pasture compared to eating hay in confinement, including the reduction of unwanted behaviors such as bedding and manure eating, cribbing and chewing wood. (this info was published in an article from the University of Minnesota )

Breeding males have obvious white blaze on forehead and broad green slash behind eye. Females are plainer brown with rusty sides. Females are very difficult to distinguish from female Eurasian Wigeon; note colder grayish-brown head on American that contrasts with warmer orangey sides. Also look for brighter white, not gray, underwings in flight, but this can be difficult to judge, especially at a distance. Widespread and common in North America, occasionally wintering as far south as northern South America. Typically in flocks on lakes and wetlands, often grazing in nearby fields. Regular vagrant to Europe. (eBird)

Was down in Dumfries and Galloway yesterday for some wildlife. A quiet day however there were some cool appearances. This roe deer was grazing, we kept very still and quiet and we’re rewarded with a close up of this stunning animal. I hope you have a good weekend.

One just wants to graze, whilst the other two run off a bit of energy!

The beauty of Wales. Ponies grazing in the wild on the Gower Peninsula, South Wales. As you walk through the sandy pine woods to here, then on beyond the distant trees you arrive at the lighthouse on Whitford Sands, a huge and almost invariably empty white sand beach.

Migrations are one of the most fascinating phenomena that can be seen in Africa. Migratory group consists of 1.5 millions of wildebeest and hundreds of thousands associated animals, such as zebras and Thompson's gazelles.
