Lindoso, Portugal
These grain stores which number about sixty, cover a rocky platform at the foot of the castle and form an extraordinary concentration, like a cemetery, of small granite buildings, perched on piles and some of which are topped with one or two crosses. Their careful construction dates back to the 18C and 19C. They are still used today for the storage and drying of maize.

The fortified granaries of southern Morocco are generally perched on rocky peaks, a single door allowed access. Some have been restored such as that of Id Aïssa and Aguellouy, many are almost completely ruined. They were used to store and protect crops, important acts such as marriage certificates, property titles that were written on wooden cylinders, and of course a refuge for the population in the event of an attack.

When I saw this place from a distance, all I could see were the dormers. I thought it was going to be a spectacular house. Instead it was the fanciest granary I've ever seen.
Old Anasazi Granaries perched high in a cliff face. The advantage of this is its hard to get to and anyone trying to pilfer the stores an be seen from a distance
Nothing special as granaries go, but the light was great! I do love this stuff, even when it's a sort of an 'ordinary' feature.
This granary is built in the current Kogelstraat in the 1600s. in Diepenbeek. Due to the shape of the gable, the floor can bear more weight. Around 1900 modern grain silos slowly replace traditional storehouses. Grain importation, mechanisation and population growth make more storage space essential. In 1934 Joannes-Frans Leuris dies. He lived in the granary all his life. The granary was thoroughly converted into a house. In 1971 the craftsmen fom Bokrijk rebuild the granary as grain storage space after it had been donated by the Vandepoel-Fabry family. In 1994 the granary roof is raised as a whole so that the carpenters from Bokrijk can restore the building. Domain Brokrijk, Belgium
