The Northern Cardinal (m) against a fall backdrop. The red colour can deepen as this Cardinal finishes it's moulting and the carotenoids in it's diet can influence the colour of it's plummage as well.

Maybe she appears

Ready to lay down and sleep

Please don't believe your eyes

She has a storm in her chest

It brews in silence

And those who know her

Call her wild card

For she is most calm

Before the storm...

caught it on the fly while out last weekend!

I don't remember what lens this was. I want to say it was my Rikenon

shot on film at Lincoln Park with a Nikon F4s, Nikkor 24/2.8 AF-D, and Kodak Ektar 100

When I compare

What I have lost with what I have gained,

What I have missed with what attained,

Little room do I find for pride.

I am aware

How many days have been idly spent;

How like an arrow the good intent

Has fallen short or been turned aside.

But who shall dare

To measure loss and gain in this wise?

Defeat may be victory in disguise;

The lowest ebb is the turn of the tide.

Loss and Gain ~ Longfellow

In support of Women Film Photographers.

Just a fence on Friday. This one happens to be on film. Located on a street I know well, Water Street, St. John's. I normally work in this area and every lunchtime I'd head out for a walk with my camera. I miss that.

We have a return to work date picked for the new year. There are parts about that make me sad and also parts, like this, the walking and exploring on my lunch break, that make me excited.

Wishing you all a great weekend!!

On my last run of development I found this image. I figured I better better post it before winter came fully and it went in my archives.

I posted the digital version of this not long ago. I'm not sure which I like better!

Now that I got that out of the way, I better get out there and start taking photos of the snow so I am seasonally appropriate. I have no idea why I need to be...but I just do!

Take care all!!

From another film swap I did with my bud in New York over the winter. I've done several of these with different people and they NEVER come out like when him and I swap. I'm pretty sure we found our swapping soulmates. LOL. We shoot blindly and they always turn out so rad! My shot is the rain on the window and his the neon sign!

First role through the Rolleicord DMGR

They are getting so big. When they stand in front of me now they are way more then half my size and my oldest...only 2 shoes sizes away from wearing my footwear...(help)!

Love this one, cause I love them. Catching it on film….even better. Classic and timeless.

Most days I can't get this place out of my head. I didn't think it was possible but after I developed this film I was even more smitten. My first go at colour and not to sound too boastful but I think I did alright!

This was my first and only visit to Change Islands. It was a whirlwind visit between ferry runs. I will be back some day to stay from sunrise to sunset. Who knows, I may even stay for many sunrises and sunsets and everything in between. Until then....I'll play this on repeat.

Built on water and secured in place by cribbing, the Newfoundland fishing stage is an ocean facing room where the fisherman transforms fresh cod into salt cod during the busy fishing seasons. With a declining fishery though, places like this are more likely used to store gear and to clean the odd catch during our food fishery.

Thanks for all the support you’ve shown me. I appreciate it more then you know. I want to say I’m sorry about being a slacker when it comes to reciprocating. This has been my creative outlet when my world is whirling a little too fast. I hope in the future to s-l-o-w it down and smell the virtual roses. (Literally, I’ve seen roses I haven’t had time to comment on.) Maybe this is all an argument for retirement. Or maybe just a holiday. Whatever the solution, know that I working on it and while I may not be around much, I still think about you and all the beautiful photography I’m missing. Once again, I wish you all health, happiness, and a life surrounded by the people you love. Take care all!!! And be awesome!!! :-)

I really like the contrast, light, shadow and graininess in this photo, I like that it is imperfect yet sharp. I don't think I could duplicate this photo with a digital camera, this is one of many reasons why I still shoot film.

There is unrest in the forest

Trouble with the trees

For the maples want more sunlight

And the oaks ignore their pleas

The trouble with the maples

(And they're quite convinced they're right)

They say the oaks are just too lofty

And they grab up all the light

But the oaks can't help their feelings

If they like the way they're made

And they wonder why the maples

Can't be happy in their shade

There is trouble in the forest

And the creatures all have fled

As the maples scream, "Oppression"

And the oaks just shake their heads

So the maples formed a union

And demanded equal rights

They say, "The oaks are just too greedy

We will make them give us light"

Now there's no more oak oppression

For they passed a noble law

And the trees are all kept equal

By hatchet, axe, and saw

The Trees

Morning all! The first snow storm of the year has begun. School is delayed opening and me and my girls are being all cozy in our jammies. Downfalls of working from home....no more snow days for me. Oh well...hopefully it will be a slow day!

Hope you all have a fantastic day and yes, I know, I'm obsessed with Change Islands. Now I'm visualizing it in snow. Think I could convince everyone we need a winter vacation there???
