St. Paul's Anglican church in Monaco where Grace Kelly married her Prince Rainier. Explored Apr 3, 2021.

IN ENGLISH BELOW THE LINE

Li deu fer molta gracia a Albert II passar per allà...

This is the catholic cathedral of Monaco, which has the entire principality of Monaco as its diocese, which must make it one of the smallest in the World. All in all, it has only 6 parishes and was created in 1887. The cathedral itself is neo-Romanesque, built from 1875 to 1903. Members of the Grimaldi family, the princes of Monaco, are buried here.

In fact, after the tombs of Grace Kelly and Rainier III there's a nameless tomb. It must be creepy for the actual prince, Albert II, to see this one...

R is for Rear Window: the classic film directed by one of my favorites, Alfred Hitchcock. A thrilling taste of voyeurism, telephoto lenses, and romance between an invalid photographer and a piece of the Upper East Side's upper crust.

I thought of this shot about ten days ago, and have looked forward to it ever since. I really wanted to have a shot that was clearly inspired by one of my favorite directors and/or films, and I had great success doing it with Lost In Translation. But what sealed the deal with Rear Window was the fact that my stepfather had foot surgery and is in a cast/boot thing for six weeks. Pretty fortuitous ... plus, Jordy already did Psycho (props to him for making it funny and getting away with it), I am not even close to being able to have a scene from The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly, or No Country For Old Men and, well, those covered my favorite films by my favorite directors. I mean, okay. Yeah, I could have done the last two with a lot of time and effort, but it's not my fault the letter 'R' fell on a Monday I had work and two doctors' appointments!

I don't liken myself to Grace Kelly at all, and not just because she's blonde and infinitely more beautiful and royalty, (though those don't help) but because she is much more ladylike and, well, graceful. So ideally, this shot would be without me and in my place, a blonde and/or evidently graceful woman. However, I don't have either of those at my disposal; I was going to use my mother, since it felt a little weird (in theory) to be the Grace Kelly to my stepfather's Jimmy Stewart, but I got over it -- all for art's sake! :)

p.s. It's grainy for the old film feel -- but maybe it would be better without. Any thoughts??

p.p.s. two stills from the original movie: one and two

On the morning of 13 September 1982, Gracia Patricia and her daughter Stéphanie, driving home from the Roc Agel summer residence, ran off the road in their ten-year-old Rover 3500 on the Route de La Turbie at the entrance to Cap-d'Ail in this hairpin bend for unexplained reasons and plunged 40 metres down a slope.

A statue of Grace Kelly's father, John B. (Jack) Kelly is seen beside a biker along the Schuykill River in Philadelphia.

More about Jack Kelly:

"...Though eventually outshone (at least outside Philadelphia) by his famous daughter, Jack Kelly was a celebrity in his own right, winning three Olympic gold medals in rowing. His son, John Jr., was also an Olympic rower. East River Drive was renamed Kelly Drive in his honor after John Jr.’s death in 1985. Now John B. Kelly III, known as J. B., is the president of Vesper Boat Club, at the midpoint on Boathouse Row..."

"...Boathouse Row is also the launching point for a public art walk, two and a half miles long, that goes up Kelly Drive and ventures over to the west side of the river before coming back. Besides Jack Kelly’s statue, there are about 30 other works of art, including statues of Abraham Lincoln, Ulysses S. Grant and a figure called “The Pilgrim,” with a Bible in his left hand, peering out onto a water as if catching a glimpse of everything that is happening on a busy river..."

A photo of the gorgeous Grace Kelly on the beach.

We had fun in February getting back out with the camera and taking pictures again. We invited some of our favorite "models" to join us. The theme was the glamour years of the 30s and 40s, the golden age of cinema, the time of the big studios. They dressed in the style of their favorite starlet, such as Ava Gardner, Greta Garbo, Audrey Hepburn, Lena Horne, Sophia Loren, Myrna Loy, Anne Sheridan and Grace Kelly. Some poses were modeled after actual publicity photos of the age; some were not. And we didn't concern ourselves with the technical quality of being actually of the 30s or 40s. We worked the camera and had fun. Thank you all. I think the results are wonderful!

la sublime Grace, le charmant et séduisant Jimmy, Janet à la poitrine impressionnante, le ténébreux et désarmant Tony, le Grand Hitch...............

Grace was such a classic, elegant, aristocratic and perfect beauty,

Jimmy Stewart was so attractive,

Janet impressed me by her incredible boobs

Tony was sometimes disturbing, sometimes charming

and the Great Hitch was very Hitch...........

Dress: Helen Rose (MGM head costume designer)

Dress made using 125 year old Brussels rose point lace for the bodice with seed pearl detailing, silk faille bell-shaped skirt.

I am elated that Grace Kelly can don another great fashion from Rear Window. I think Mattel should have made a Grace Kelly series especially from this flawless movie. Thank you Integrity Toys! It's literally the same dress from the film. Grace looks absolutely amazing in it!

Rear Window and To Catch a Thief. They are both lovely and I think that have different makeup palates. But, I think I still prefer To Catch a Thief Grace (red head) because she a more natural look.

Happy Sliders Sunday

I was inspired by film "Rear Window" with Grace Kelly and James Stewart . I think Agnes looks like Grace in this film.

I like much this film and book.
