One of my very favourite flowers - a trip out to see them in local woodland means the true beginning of spring to me.
It was wonderful to see the bluebells beginning to emerge too.
My beautiful sister Grace, modelling for me in the upstairs of Adelaide Arcade, lit by a sunbeam from the skylight above. She flew in for a family visit which happily coincided with Chinese New Year.
I need more practice with actual human subjects. The focus could be better. But the overall effect is satisfactory.

I had seen this warbler once before a few years ago, but that little guy flew from its perch before I could get my lens on him.
So I had to keep trying. The Grace's Warbler nests in higher elevations in mature pines. They hang out in the upper reaches, which makes photographing them difficult.
They are not difficult to find if sought on breeding grounds. I chose a mountain side near Price, Utah, to look for this warbler of the West. I walked the several miles up the road listening for it (and looking for its favored pines). A bird or two would come in, but they wouldn't hang around for long.
And look at its small size. It is perching on needles!!
Sadly its numbers are falling as its habitats are disappearing. Hopefully, we find the sense to protect their forests so this species and others will survive.

Just walking the dog while recovering from my illness, we came upon this magical scene in the woods. I don't know about Zak, but it lifted my spirit intensely. The light was wonderful and the trees ... well, they were so wonderfully graceful and welcoming with their beauty and silence. Had to 'paint' this scene ... and I hope you like it too. I always knew what I'd call this picture.
Here's a bit of music you might like too. I do - always have since I was introduced to it by my sons a few years back now. The whole album is terrific, by the same name - Grace.
Grace, written and sung by Jeff Buckley
Thank you so much, as always, for your faves, comments and kindness. I really appreciate it.
I read first thing this morning about a woman who had received a gift from a stranger, and this simple random act had touched her deeply and she considered it a profoundly spiritual experience .... in her own words 'an act of grace'
.... and this thought has stayed with me all day on my walk, and I too felt a deep sense of gratitude for the freedom and good health to be able to do this, and to have a 'go to' place where I can be creative and find peace in nature.

she lives to give
she lives to die
her graces free
well given to you and I
her shade in summer
brings comfort and joy
her wood builds shelter
in winter from those winds that could
if they would
chill us to the bone
she burns so bright
with a flame so warm with might
a promise of heat on a winter night
her leaves of color
say goodbye to summer
and welcome the fall
for one and all
yet here she stands
majestic and grand
here she gives a grace so free
for you and me
shall we be
or not
shall we accept the grace freely given
let us then know that all is forgiven
when a heart carved on her bark
says, i love you.
A Swan, a lovely one.
I may be a bit random in the next couple of weeks and probably won't be around much.
Sorry to my lovely contacts and friends.
!! Y'all commented before I added my description !! ;-p
Horse sense is the thing a horse has
which keeps it from betting on people.
~W.C. Fields
The horse park up the street is one of my all-time favorite places to visit, not just for photography but because of the love the horses seem to draw from deep within me. Unfortunately during this pandemic, no one is allowed in except authorized people, which doesn't include me. This is from my archives of two summers ago. It seems like forever ...

Happy Monochrome Bokeh Thursday, everyone!
A solitary white swan glides effortlessly across a mirror-like surface, framed by the golden hues of fall. The contrast between the dark water and vibrant foliage creates a minimalist yet striking composition — a quiet moment of elegance in nature’s seasonal rhythm.

"A rose can never be a sunflower, and a sunflower can never be a rose. All flowers are beautiful in their own way.*
I have photographed Grace Long's grave before and even shared a couple of them. I returned to this cemetery a couple weeks ago to photograph it again (I originally shot it on Fomapan 100 and wanated to take it on x-ray film).
Though I think I'll return again to make another attempt, this one will do for now.
Grace's parents were Clark and Ara Long. They had at least eleven children together. Grace was their last child, born in 1900. George, their fourth (probably), is buried next to Grace. He died at the age of 23 in 1910.
By that time, Ara, the wife and mother, had lost two children in infancy and her husband Clark, who died in a boating accident two years before George.
Three years after George died, Grace followed. She was thirteen years old.
I don't know who fashioned the markers - this cemetery has many of them - she appears to have never had a stone. The same is true for her brother. And is true for the two infants who died before. The same is also true for an older sister who died by suicide while living in Washington DC.
When Ara, the mother and wife, died in 1938, she was survived by seven of her children.
