I’m officially confused by the weather. In the city, the trees almost look like we’re in the middle of winter already which gives me some mild anxiety because I haven’t managed to go on a proper forest walk this autumn yet to appreciate beautiful foliage yet. When I look up at the hills surrounding Heidelberg, though, most of the trees still seem to be quite green. So what is it now - is autumn almost over or has it barely even just begun? +

Because my ankle still isn’t feeling well (pretty sure I sprained it), I decided to end my walk one day early and instead spent a day relaxing in St. Ives. I visited the Barbara Hepworth Museum and the Tate St. Ives and the latter especially was absolutely amazing. I especially fell in love with the work of artist Peter Lanyon and spent ages observing the three paintings of his that were part of the current exhibition. It’s been years since I’ve last visited a modern art museum, but today has reminded me that I always find myself endlessly inspired by seeing modern art. I know nothing about art and am not particularly artistically inclined myself, but there is just something about looking at art that makes me feel invigorated. What is your favorite art museum?

If these rocks had voices, what stories would they tell? Would they speak of smugglers, pirates and sailors, of grand adventures and large battles? Or would they remember nothing of the kind and instead cautiously remind us that we’re merely little grains of sand in the ever-floating hourglass of time and that history always repeats itself, even as the world grows and changes? The rocks may not be able speak, but it’s hard to walk in Cornwall and to not hear the call of nature and to make up our own answers.

These past few days have really been an emotional rollercoaster. I’ve been incredibly happy walking over the cliffs and utterly at peace with myself and the world feeling the sea wind in my hair, but I have also felt isolated and lonely and confused by my feelings. I’m trying to remember that this is exactly why I wanted to go on this trip, though. That I wanted to challenge myself physically and emotionally, that I wanted to have time to be alone with myself and my struggles, that I never expected this to be easy. Solo travel can push you to your boundaries, but I firmly believe that it’s at those boundaries that personal growth happens. It takes time, sweat and maybe even some tears - but it does happen! -
