It's that time of year, Halloween approaching and an array of gourds ,pumpkins and cucurbita appear from nowhere. An impressive mix of colour and textures. The above was taken at Tyntesfield House,Bristol, a National Trust Property.

These were for sale at a roadside stand in Cheshire, MA. I was riding my bicycle at the time on the Ashuwillicook bicycle path.

This gourd has the perfect swan costume for this Halloween week.

Gourds may be one of the oldest cultivated plants, originally grown to make storage containers and utensils. Although some varieties are edible when the fruit is young, most people grow them for their decorative qualities. Gourds are members of the Cucurbit family, which includes cucumbers, squash and melons.

Yes, gourds are fruit, though I didn't know that until I looked it up. And for this week's Macro Mondays "Fruit" theme, I photographed this one in front of a small decorative plaque that features pictures of gourds with the greeting, "Hello Gourd-geous!"

I am sorry that I have not been around to visit you this week! It has been one of those weeks!

Wishing everyone a good weekend!

Thanks so much for your visits... texture...Awry

A pallet of gourds for sale at a farmers market at Strawberry Hill SC

Again, this is just at a grocery store (actually, our commissary located at the nearby fort). I wish it were a fruit and vegetable stand or our local Farmer's Market; but it still is colorful for the season! Hope you enjoy!

Gourds and Onions for sale at the roadside markets on Lac Nzala on the road just beyond the Middle Atlas Mountains on the way to Fez. I'm almost certain that the locals call these vegetables Slaouia, which are bottle-neck gourds, a favorite vegetable in Tagine dishes.

I happened to have my camera with me while we stopped at the grocery store briefly on the way home. I couldn't resist taking pictures of a bin full of interesting gourds. (Pompoen: Dutch for pumpkin or gourd).

Decorative gourds outside the supermarket! They were in a mound on a display outside the store, almost a pyramid. The image has created a flattening effect, so there seems to be even more than there actually was.
