sense of perspective. I decided to paint the view from my living room window. I'll admit that I had a photo I'd taken earlier on my laptop, taken with a Zoom lens, so I could verify detail, but I tried not to reference it unless I was getting lost. Next time, I think I'll paint something closer to me, lol. Done with Arteza gouache, ZenArt Black Tulip brushes and Hahnemühle Cold Press Collection watercolor paper.
#DoodlewashMarch2021 prompts: Potatoes. Did you know that potato blossoms used to be fashionable? Marie Antoinette made them all the rage when she wore one in her hair. Out of all the brush shapes, I find the rigger the hardest to use. I decided that I'd use one to try and get all those perspective lines lined up. Phew! Only took about 5 times longer than it needed to, lol. I also remembered why I don't do perspective too often. It's kind of boring. I made some compositional choices that I'm not over pleased with. One of those case where I fell in love with details but they don't really help the overall painting.

#DoodlewashJanuary2021 prompt: Flowers. Did you know that there are 80 different species of crocus and they are found all over the globe. In many places, they herald the beginning of Spring. I thought we all needed a little hope of Spring to begin the year!

#DoodlewashJanuaryPrompt : Gate. Did you know that in ancient times a gate often consisted of both an outer gate and an inner one, with a space in between? That space in between was often a meeting place, marketplace, and law court, as well as a line of defense. Artwork-Gouache on Hahnemühle hot press 'The Collection' Watercolor paper. Did you know that as of Feb 2020, Austria is home to the world's tallest snowman, which measures a little over 124 ft/ 38 m? #DoodlewashDecember2020 Prompts: Peppermint, Ribbon, Candle, Cookies, Snowman, Wreath, Mistletoe, Candy, Stocking, Skates, Ornament, Evergreen. #@Hahnemühle_USA lifeimitatesdoodles.blog/2020/12/02/snowman-in-stocking-cap/
#DoodlewashJanuary2021 Prompt: Small. Did you know that the Baluchistan Pygmy Jerboa is the smallest rodent in the world? Weighing in around 3.75 g (0.132 oz), they look like a cross between a mouse and a kangaroo! I didn't have a good reference photo, so it was cobbled from several different photos. It's harder to get detail and shading correct, so a simpler more cartoony technique works well. It's faster, too! Gouache on Hahnemühle hot press 'The Collection' Watercol
#DoodlewashFebruary2021 Prompt: Shadows. Did you know that chameleons communicate with each other through their color changes. Among other things, females show acceptance or rejection of their suitors by their color. #DoodlewashJanuaryPrompt : Novel. A Lion, the King of Cats and a Dire Wolf? Are they 1walking into a bar? And what is that strangely reflective surface they are on? Ice? A Mirror? Wow. Sorry I've been so absent lately. Lot of stuff going on and my latest Mac OS update messed up my passwords so I couldn't even get into my Macbook and that took about 3 days to fix. I've got some travel coming up, so I'll be in and out for another week or two.
#DoodlewashJanuary2021 Prompt: Puppy. #DoodlewashJanuary2021 Prompt: Egg. Did you know that you can often tell whether a hen will lay white or brown eggs by the color of her earlobes? There are exceptions, but usually white earlobes mean white eggs while red or brown earlobes indicate brown eggs. I've always appreciated the images taken from drones, showing the meandering rivers and streams crossing the land below. Knowing that yours truly is more of a macro photographer, imagine my delight when I saw the same sort of image pop up inside my house. While painting, I was mixing watercolor with gouache in my large enamel tray. Suddenly the colors were moving into each other, replicating the same sort of image taken from a drone. The rest is digital history!
