Looking forward to spring yet? Here's a throwback to Spring 2014 when I got to hike to Grassy Creek Falls, right off the Blue Ridge Parkway near Little Switzerland, NC. If you're looking for an easy hike to a lovely waterfall, don't miss this one. The hike is just over a mile (including the dirt road). Park your car near the beginning of the dirt road and hike the first 0.5 miles to the trailhead. When you see the "trail" sign, hike another 0.5 miles to the waterfall. Please note that this waterfall is on private property and that the owners are kind enough to allow foot traffic to the falls; please respect their wishes to park all cars near the beginning of the road. NIGHT FALLS OVER LINVILLE - Share it if you like it!
On a recent trip to the Linville Gorge, I wanted to stop and do a little night photography, also known as astrophotography. Looking over the gorge towards Morganton, NC, the glow of the yellow city lights and the deep blue night sky made a beautiful palette of colors perfect for a gorgeous photograph. Anyone who is a Motown citizen knows the familiar horizon line of Hawksbill and Table Rock Mountains, but I wanted to create an image that people don't normally see. Adding something different, like the night sky full of stars, to something so familiar puts a different perspective on an iconic silhouette. It is our job as photographers to do exactly this so that the world can experience views of things that they may not normally see. This is the number one reason I love my job so much! Enjoy, and make sure you visit the gorge soon for some of the most beautiful and wild vistas in our area!
