"Gothic Abbey" You've all seen this sight before I'm sure, but I've only ever photographed the Abbey at night so was hoping to grab a classic sunset shot when I ventured to Whitby on Sunday Evening. Things did look promising for time, but those ominous looking clouds you see on the right quickly moved in to obscure the sun and kill any chance of sunset colour.
I like the softness of the light over whitby town though and the wind dropped just long enough to allow for a decent reflection in the pond.

The Gothic Library (Gothisches Bibliothek) on Holy Lake (Heiligen See) in the New Garden Park in Potsdam on a stormy October day (around 2:30 pm). The library was built for King Friedrich Wilhelm II of Prussia in 1794-96 to hold his collection of French and German literature. Following bombing damage to its foundation in World War II, it gradually slipped into the lake and had to be dismantled. It was rebuilt in 1995-97 -- on its original location, and with all of the original stones. The dramatic storm clouds here give the library an especially Gothic atmosphere. [OLY01768_lr_2000]

'Twas the night before the full moon.
There was a very, very thin misty veil of cloud.
I had been down at Sunset Beach to watch the sun go down...and hopefully get a good pic.
On the way back, through the Park, the almost full moon shone through the trees... with it's illuminated veil of cold, moist, night air.
For a brief moment, it felt like I was in a scene from a gothic story...
