A view of the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone taken from Uncle Tom's trail.
Have a most wonderful weekend!
We took my two cousins for a drive along the Gorges du Verdon yesterday. We stopped earlier in Moustiers for a coffee while a ferocious thunderstorm raged outside. Once it had abated we ran for the car and set off. The rain ceased but the lightning continued. It was spectacular (and a little bit scary). When we came back the same way about two hours later we were greeted by this. Quite the contrast to a few hours previously.
This image shot in the rain just before "bomb cyclone" hit the Pacific Northwest this weekend. The colors were just changing, and I wonder how many leaves will remain once the storm abates.
in Snaefellsns penisula, Rauðfeldsgjá Gorge is a natural formation, narrow fissure several hundreds of meters into the mountain, with a little river at the bottom After about 70 meters you meet a little waterfall and have to do some climbing to get farther into the mountain. That is as far as I have gone. Still it is incredible with the narrow walls several tens of meters high around you.

Stunning conditions on Sunday morning. What a treat. One of the first frames I captured before sunrise.
We spent the day at Taughannock Falls State Park with the splendid 400 foot gorge walls and 215 foot waterfall.
The view of the Atigun River Gorge looking south into the core of the Brooks Range, seen from the front of a helicopter flying over the north ridge. The serrated ridge across the valley (~ 5000’/ 1500m) is composed up of the Fortress Mountain formation, a mix of marine and non-marine sediments, including, siltstones, conglomerates, and carbon rich strata with carbonized plant debris (logs/ coal) of Cretaceous age. Marine fossils (molluscs) occur in the lighter colored sediments. The influence of water in the drainage channels on vegetation is clear from the darker green stripes leading to the Atigun River. The higher peaks (all un-named) in the back are around 7000’ / 2100 m, some of which have remnant glaciers clinging to their slopes. At this latitude (68.5˚ N) the sun doesn’t set during the summer- this was taken around 9 pm, with the sun still fairly high in the WNW.
This places never ceases to amaze me! I love the trickle of water, the rocks and the twisted trees, a particular favourite location for many photgraphers in the Autmn months, but for me, I love it anytime of the year.
Gorge walks are great fun, you are guaranteed to get wet, but with the right equipment, it is very rewarding to complete.
Avalanche Gorge is located along the trail of cedars near Avalanche campground. It's graceful sweep and sculptured rock banks showing stream erosion since the ice age. Beautiful ferns and other greenery are found near the springs.
The hike through the cedars was one of my favorites in Glacier National park.
sometimes the light shines right.Taken 9pm as the sun set brought big hot light into a lovely hidden gorge. Some wil;l; know where this is
A Royal Gorge Route Railroad (then, Canon City and Royal Gorge) passenger train pauses near Hanging Bridge west of Gorge siding in the depths of Royal Gorge, west of Canon City, Colorado, on May 14, 1999. One of the world's highest suspension bridges, Royal Gorge Bridge, which spans the Arkansas River at a height of nearly 1000 feet, soars over the train. This locomotive is former Chicago and North Western Executive F7 No. 402, and lives on today pulling popular excursions through the Royal Gorge. (Update—No. 402 now as a “retirement job” of being on display at Canon City…)

The lake "Pakasaivo" in the gorge is 60 meters deep. The water comes from springs at the bottom..
According to the beliefs of the Sámi people, there was a hole at the bottom of the lake and on the other side of it was another lake, but upside down. On its shores, the Saivo people lived a happy life, with their heads down in relation to the livings.
This little robin is very often present at the ornithological observatory in the Bois de Vincennes, and keeps company with the many photographers who frequent it. I like his annoyed look which seems to say ... "it's not just the kingfisher or the kestrel to photograph, I'm here too!"
