I rarely get political but given the state of affairs over in Europe (again) I thought I'd just show some support for Ukraine. Europe already started two world wars. I do not want them to start another one.
The United States has done a lot of stupid, stupid, stupid things over the last 200 years or so, but what Russia is doing in March of 2022 is one of the dumbest things I've seen in my lifetime. What does Putin and his goons expect to gain from this?
I grew up as a kid in the 1970s and was taught to be afraid of the Soviet Union and communism, and I feared the government, not the people.
I have lived through the US invading other countries for no logical reason, I've seen the US overthrow democratically elected presidents, elect an orange buffoon, and many, many, many other things I wish hadn't happened.
The US isn't perfect but at least I feel relatively safe here. Even so close to Baltimore. I can't imagine what the average Ukrainian citizen is living through right now.

My daughter's God Daughter was in the habit of calling the Redcliffe swimming lagoon the "'goon" when she was a young kid so, the title having stuck, I have used that today as my title for what is otherwise known as the Second or Dowse Lagoon in the bayside suburb of Sandgate, Brisbane. Sandgate actually has three lagoons, this one being the intermediate one. It is surrounded, like all three by a layer of park and then a normal urban environment.
Occasionally in drought it dries up and there has to be a rescue of the creatures, mainly turtles that live in it. It is also a haven for birds. Here is a little bit more from the Brisbane City Council.
"As a distinctive natural landscape feature, Dowse Lagoon is important for its association with the development of the pattern of settlement and urban fabric of the district. Important as part of a complex ecosystem of wetland parks, Dowse Lagoon has been degraded and endangered by changes in hydrology resulting in weed infestations fed by toxic run-off from the surrounding roadways and properties. A landscaped retreat within the urban fabric, Dowse Lagoon is important as a place for the local and wider community to meet and relax informally.
Accommodating the Sandgate Scout Group and Bowls and Croquet Clubs, the lagoon reserve is important for its association with community organisations in the district. A freshwater lagoon in the heart of an urban area providing a scenic backdrop to the business centre of Sandgate and a habitat for a range of waterbirds, Dowse Lagoon is an important visual element in the streetscape and is important for the expansive views afforded across the Lagoon. Named for early settler and Sandgate promoter Thomas Dowse, the Lagoon is important as a reminder of the early settlement of Sandgate".
