The man is a wax dummy and its human counterpart is still living in Goole.
We all have limited Flickr time and I spend most of it commenting on my list of contacts. Unfortunately I must now give first priority to my contacts who find the time to comment on my stream. I will try to comment on others if I have any time left
Yesterday I lost my Internet connection from lunch time until I logged-on again today. I will catch up with folks later today.
Usually I get more comments on pictures that I dont rate highly and vice versa!! So here is a shot I would normally keep to myself :o)
Wednesday's York - York RHTT heads back to Goole after reversing on the Hull Iine, crossing the wonderful Goole Swing Bridge, which still occasionally swings, there is a small port upstream.

Coal chute number 5 on Goole docks. This lift was designed to lift “Tom Pudding” boats loaded with coal or coke, the boat was then tilted and its load slid down the chute into waiting ships.
An unidentified Class 37/0 passes through Goole station and over Boothferry Road Level Crossing with a westbound tank working during the early 1980's.

The 2*-listed No. 5 Compartment Boat Hoist is the last remaining hoist of its type in the world. It was part of an innovative system unique to the port town of Goole used to transport coal from the Yorkshire mines and load them on to ships at Goole Docks for export.
Compartment boats, nicknamed Tom Puddings, were loaded with coal and linked into "trains". A tug pulled them along the Aire and Calder Navigation, sometimes as many as 40 at a time. At the docks, each Tom Pudding was lifted by the hoist and its contents tipped into the hold of a waiting ship.(Goole Civic Society)

East Yorkshire 900 (AFT783C) in Goole, Humberside. The bus was an Alexander bodied Daimler Fleetline that had originally been new to Tynemouth & District (283) in 1965. The image comes from the collection of original colour slides that I acquired a few years ago.
It doesn't state on the slide, but I'm assuming the picture was taken in Boothferry Road, Goole, Circa 1973-4 (please let me know if this is incorrect). Behind the bus is a very new looking Hillman Imp carrying an 'L' 1972-3 registration suffix. The old Woolworth store that these vehicles have just past, appears to be pretty well unchanged from the 1950s.

Goole is a small upriver port in Yorkshire, which was built in the 19th century, principally for the export of coal from the Yorkshire coalfields.
It still attracts about 600 seagoing ships per year, which are limited in size to 100m in length by the size of the entrance lock. Cargoes nowadays include steel, agribulks, paper and board, timber, edible oils and cement.
