I had an opportunity to visit Google and the Googleplex for the first time today. This picture was taken while parked at 1600 Ampheteatre Way in Mountain View just in front of the Google campus... I had to sniff the air and there it was: Google WiFi. You go through a simple registration to get on -- worked like a charm!
As for the Googleplex, the food at the cafeteria (true to what you may have heard or read) rivles say Spago's. Simply delicious and FREE including Tazo ice tea among many other gourmet drinks ;-)

The goal today was to get Emily some more reliable internet going on in her new office. We snagged a starter set of Google’s mesh networking hardware and took it over there. Installing and setting that stuff up was SO EASY. Literally plug one into the router, then plug the other two into a power outlet somewhere else. The only thing that takes up time is waiting for the app to get everything setup. Even still, we got three of those things up and running within 30-45 minutes, and Emily went from not even being able to connect to WiFi to getting 50mbps up and down.
The contractor dude out there said he expects to start putting walls in “soon,” but didn’t give us a specific date. Yay?
Us nerds in Mtn. View who don't get FREE food as a company perk have to find other lunchtime destinations.

Installed GoogleWifi repeater at a friends house over the weekend.
Ingredients:
* Linksys WRT54GS Router I had kicking around
* 10dB gain antenna, some adapters from Frys
* DD-WRT firmware
* Sprinkler controller box
* 2x4 beam to mount it
Seems to have boosted the signal considerably, but reliability is still an issue. Will try to relocate it to clear the tree.
Google's free wifi in Mountain View works pretty well from certain street corners, others not so well.
Decided to eat at this Middle Eastern restaurant on El Camino Real. I always drive by it because it has a big falafel sign, so last night I finally decided to poke my head in there and try it out. I have to admit the service was really good. The gentleman offered black Iranian tea. I have to try other stuff on the menu. But this was just the first dish I tried that looked tasty. And it was tasty!!!! The restaurant actually had good GoogleWifi which is free in Mountain View, CA. So I was able to watch Obama's DNC speech while eating this meal. Enough is enough!!!!!! 271 is now complete!
