Wild pansy - but by now means a shrinking violet, even though it has chosen a gap between two paving stones near a house and garage entrance around the corner as its home. With bug friend. Isn't it amazing where greens and flowers grow in our cities? True flower power :-)

For some reason the chorus of the B52's song "Good Stuff" came to my mind when I thought about a caption / title for this. I hadn't thought about the band or that song in ages, but it sure helped me to get rid of a pesky advertising jingle turned earworm which was bugging me for the past days. Now I have a new earworm, but at least it's a really good one ;-) If you like, here's a link to the crazy, pleasantly over-the-edge original video (you may wish to hear the chorus only - it's a fairly long song -, and you can do so at 1:14 and 2:34):

Happy Weekend, dear Flickr friends!

Endorsed by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. This brand of tequila is the smoothest one yet! For years I was not a tequila fan (yet I drank margaritas for decades now), but as I got older my tastes for alcohol has changed a lot. Years ago, cognac, rum, vodka were my spirits of choice (this was back in the 1990s), and I’m beginning to get into spirits like gin, tequila, and my top favourite, scotch whiskey (I’ve always referred to Scotch as the “pastime of the gods”), but that’s just my take on it. But I’m just expanding my taste buds as far as spirits (liquors, that is) are concerned. A huge majority of liquors I have had mixed with something, but I very seldom had most of them by themselves which I’m begging to appreciate more of. So after leaving my comfort zone, my tastes in spirits have expanded as of late. But I’m loving tequila, very smooth, made from agave plants, and I’ve had some rough tequilas, but this was by far the best of them all! And it ain’t cheap either! But again, the smoothness of it speaks for itself. If you haven’t tried it yet, I guarantee that you’ll love this drink. I endorse this drink, and as always, DRINK RESPONSIBLY!

I’m not much of a drinker nowadays (which is one of the reasons why I haven’t posted any booze shots as of late). Anyway, the wife and I was recently on a dinner date, and we had a nice steak dinner. I wasn’t gonna drink anything originally, but wifey wanted to have something with our dinners. She had a pineapple mojito, I had a dry martini, shaken, not stirred (sounds familiar, anyone?). It was delicious, the olives made it just as tasty, I think they used Bombay Sapphire (one of the best gins made) and a (very) dry vermouth. I used to make these religiously back in the day (mostly vodka) , but those days are long gone for me, and I’m cool with that, y’all. All in all, we enjoyed ourselves. And as always, drink responsibly! One last thing, the beverage on the left is a mix of ginger ale and cranberry juice.

Gumbo. Somehow gumbo comes to mind when I think of how Detroit will be revitalized. Over 100 years ago the city was a gumbo mix of tinkerers and inventors. These men worked throughout the city in small shops dedicated to making a variety of goods- horse carriages, stoves, etc. Through a series of coincidences that can’t quite be explained, several of these tinkerers turned their attention to the horseless carriage. Why Detroit and not some other city is anyone’s guess. The automobile and its hundreds and hundreds of parts proved to be like some type of base- metal catnip for these garage based inventors. In time, the gumbo coalesced into a massive machine with one single beating heart. This mighty heart was a site to see as hundreds of thousands of immigrants flowed into the city. Then one day this heart started to give out. The folks that had come to depend on the machine were cast adrift. What do they do now?

Gumbo. The future is not in some new machine to replace the dying machine; rather it is in the source of the old machine. The city needs to find a way to welcome and encourage the modern day tinkerers and inventors. Creating a vibrant culture of risk taking and commerce, a rich and thick stew of commercial activity. Instead of desperately trying to lure a Wal- Mart into the city, maybe the city should make it easy for the next Sam Walton to emerge from its midst. This little block in the Cass Corridor is an encouraging sign of gumbo returning south of 8 Mile.

Sounds like something from 50 shades of grey, but it's actually from Robert's Rules. It means to set aside a motion on the table to deal with something more urgent. Gotcha! These are the good forks, the one's from my MIL's silver, gifted to me.

Do you remember when drugstores routinely made deliveries? I remember my grandmother calling the drugstore when we were sick - Arial's Drugstore would send that delivery guy out with your medicine, and even a cheeseburger if you wanted one.....!

That memory makes me smile!

I really am feeling better - but I look like Hell!! LOL!!

Oh, but now I'm craving a good old fashioned drugstore lunch counter cheeseburger!

Again.

Take away for dinner, at home.

Boring picture, and repetitive dish, but this is soo delicious...

Home.

So at home, there is a pretty large parking lot accross the street. Normally it is home to my car, my brothers car, and my dads truck. But at one time I can remember when this parking lot would be packed full of cars. You see (maybe) the factory behind me is one of the Chef Boyardee's plants, and when I was younger there was a lot more employees at the factory so this lot was actually used. Now its empty.

And then there is me. In all my Black and White High Contrasty self.

enjoy.

Home for the next 5 days.

what what!

Today it's all about the killer textures and lines on this old co-op building and just a bit about me. I'm unwinding after a day of child/parent interviews and feeling thankful for every little thing. Yeah, life is so good.

My entry for the contest we're having on Immaterially Focused. (There's still time to enter, come on over!!)

The theme is addiction/obsession.

I have the reputation of being a coffee addict. It started when I was 7 and my stepdad introduced me to instant coffee with evaporated milk. Ahh. If you haven't tried it, you must. You have no idea what you're missing out on.

But now I drink it strong and black ;)

This wasn't everything I wanted it to be, but close enough. Possibly the most difficult photo I've ever taken!

Oh, and did I mention that I'm loving my new 50mm? hehe
