Chinatown in Bangkok is one of the largest Chinatowns in the world. It was founded in 1782 originally centered around Sampheng, the core of Chinatown now lies along Yaowarat Road, which serves as the main thoroughfare and sometimes takes its name from the whole area, often referred to as Yaowarat - เยาวราช. Bangkok has long been recognized as one of the best places in the world for street food. But it only recently started making international lists after chef and crab omelet specialist Jay Fai became the first street stall to receive a Michelin star in 2017. She was later featured in a Netflix show, while other local Thai favorites filled the guide's bib. Recommendations for gourmets. According to the Michelin website, the Bib Gourmand isn't quite a star, but is an equally esteemed rating that recognizes friendly establishments that serve good food at reasonable prices. There are currently sixty Bib Gourmand restaurants and carts in Bangkok. Photo of Guay Jub Ouan Pochana with the Michelin signs which are proudly plastered on a glass wall in Chinatown.
Guay Jub Ouan Pochana, also known as Cinema Guay Jub, is located on the main Yaowarat Road in Bangkok's historic Chinatown district. It's little more than a stall in a small shophouse with seating that opens onto the sidewalk. They are known for their rolled rice noodles in a thick, aromatic broth. It is over 50 years old and regularly saw long queues of customers before the pandemic. The signature red Michelin signs are proudly plastered on a glass wall. The owner Charnchai Tangsubmanee has been selling noodles since he was 11 years old. There is no Michelin star for 2022 as Charnchai Tangsubmanee died in 2021 from the effects of Covid-19. The stall, which has reopened since Charnchai's death, is now managed by Jitrapat and her three other siblings. Jitrapat said, “Everyone should be brave. Now that he is gone, we all have to fight to fulfill my father's dream.”

Amsterdam photo of urban outdoor public art.
Picture of a large bowed bronze sculpture, touching the cloudy blue sky, on the border of the waterfront IJ. Location is on the corner of the street Van Diemenstraat and the Silodam.
It seems to me that the bronze sculpture is offering the sky a piece of white cloud. But officially the large bronze sculpture with its many legs expresses a lifted iceberg. Still I like the idea of 'a present to the sky'.

'View over the backside of Central station' - Amsterdam urban photos - modern architecture.
You can see clearly the bowed construction and roof cap above the bus-station on the first floor level. The colored windows in the roof-cap reflect their colors on the ground and the bus-platform when sun is shining.
At the right side the gray sky above the border and water of river IJ, where the ferries cross the river.
The metallic dump trash-can plays here the wise guy in the picture.

'A residential apartments building, as bridge' - Amsterdam photo of modern architecture.
A view over the canal-water on the heavy concrete bridge-building, built in a very solid construction.
In this picture the residential building has a very solid and heavy architecture style, nevertheless the design has a waving appearance above the split canal-water.

At the utter left in the picture a floating garden on the water, as you can find more of them in Amsterdam. This one was a former garden of a houseboat, recently destroyed by fire. The floating garden stayed here in the water.

Amsterdam photos - Walking along the quay of Prins Hendrikkade and the Oosterdok water, The place of a a small 'village' of moored ships and boats. Not old enough for the official Open Harbor Museum near the Nemo, but nevertheless really old! In the sunny light of early Spring.

Amsterdam photo of modern architecture - a picture of a residential apartments building, built as a bridge over the canal-water in heavy concrete construction.
The design of this building is like a heavy wave over the water. It is like a bridge between the streets Borneokade and Entrepotkade.

Amsterdam photo of wall-painting artists in action on a brick wall, with strong colors - at the NDSM-terrein in Amsterdam-North. photo of September 2016.
The industrial brick building blocks are built in the 1930's I think.

Amsterdam in photo - a cityscape view over the waterfront IJ, at the backside of Central Station. The view is in the direction of Eye Filmmuseum. In the foreground the former foundation pillars of the concrete platform Stenen Hoofd (Stone Head) where the good were overcharged from the barges and ships into trucks and train-wagons.
I like very much the direct connections between the water surface and the sky. For me it is typical characteristic Dutch Light.

Amsterdam in photo - The old brick 17th century church Oosterkerk (Dutch for East-church) at the island Wittenburg, with sun-light and shadows in urban Fall.
This old church was not piled when it was built c. 1760, however the ground was very wet and marshy. The foundation was 'floating' in the wet moor-grounds.
Location is at the streets Wittenburgergracht / Kleine Wittenburgerstraat.

We enjoyed our lunch / brunch experience @ Lemon in the heart of Dublin, this outlet is one of our favorites when we're looking for good quality comfort food when out and about in the Irish Capital.
Amsterdam Photos Street-art - A shot of light-and-shadows on the wall under sunlight of October.which impressed me. It appeared to me as a struggle between wall-paintings and tags, sharp shadows and parked bikes for my attention. Location was at the street VanDiemenstraat, in one of the narrow alleys connecting the street with the border of the IJ-water. The wall is the sidewall of a 19th century brick-built storehouse. This gave such convincing texture to the picture.

Amsterdam photo of graffiti street-art - a small 'Wall-Talk' between a wall-drawing and a wall-iron; in the sunlight of September 2016, in the streets of Amsterdam city.
The brick wall (building is of end 19th century architecture) is painted to protect for moisture and water.
I like the play of the light and shadow by the leaves of the trees on the whole. And the sense of dialogue between the white-drawn face and the old white-painted wall-iron.

Amsterdam photos, Dutch modern architecture - Children playing sunday-afternoon on the little square, close to their home in the sunlight of early Fall. Location at the street Piet Heynkade.
I like this fresh design of modern architecture; the walls and bricks are playing so beautiful with the sun-light.

Amsterdam Photos - urban trees in Fall with a reflecting house-boat, along the canal-water of De Nieuwe Vaart.
Autumn is starting and the leaves of the trees in this picture got colored in yellow-green, orange-brown and red-brown.
It is always remarkable that the reflections in the water generates quite other and often much stronger colors then the real things above the water-surface.

Amsterdam photos, street-art and light - A worker and a wall-writing of the famous Dutch, and mainly Amsterdam, street-artist Laser 3.14 in the city-center at the canal-street Keizersgracht.
The image is also full of shadows of the young, small leaves and the trunk of the trees along the canal. It is mid-Spring! And even more combined with the shadows of the walking worker, c. noon in his working-day.
I really love that play of light and shadow in the sun-light. I also love the story of the picture; it is very typical for the old city Amsterdam and its many house-renovations in the center.
The strange thing of Laser 3.14 is that his wall-poetry lines frequently move through the whole city, for many years already. As a whole or parted in pieces. Because the wooden construction-fences travel to another pit when the job here is done.

Amsterdam, photo of a blue sky with drifting clouds above the water-front of the IJ-river. I took this picture at the location 'Het Stenen Hoofd' / (The Stone Head), close to the Van Diemenstraat, in the direction of the North-side of Amsterdam.
I enjoy very much this kind of moments when drifting clouds come up and occupy the open blue sky. Then the sky starts to fascinate me. For me the thick clouds are rolling and tumbling mountains with a lot of depth, we do not realize from the ground.
The IJ water is reflecting the divided sky in another color hue; a present...

Street-art photo, of a mysterious 'Head with building-helmet', on a iron background. The form of the head was printed somehow in the rusty skin of a pile sheeting element which are pushed in the ground to establish a temporary wall against the water in the ground.
I saw this 'Mysterious Head' along the North-border of the IJ water in Amsterdam, in the neighborhood of modern beautiful architecture, the characteristic building of the Eye film-museum.

Amsterdam Photos - a building-construction-site of a new concrete entry of a tunnel, in the Houthavens with shadows.
The area of the former Houthavens (=Woodports) in my city is this year (2016) one large construction-site. The concrete viaduct runs along the border of the city-quarter Spaarndammerbuurt.
I appreciate very much the characteristic skin of the concrete and how it embraces light and shadow in a very subtle way.

'Walking over the pavement' - Amsterdam in photos.

Amsterdam photo of small renovation activities - the renovation and rebuilding of the wooden windows and brick house-walls in the street Lombokstraat, Indische buurt, in Amsterdam East. The house-blocks were built in the 1920's by a socialist housing association, for the workers and their family.

Amsterdam Photos - 'Old Bird', a fading sprayed wall-painting on the Prins Hendrikkade. I have seen this piece really hundreds of times because it is on my way to Central Station and to the old city. I can remember it for more than seven years, I believe.
Colors of this old graffiti piece are fading like the street-art phenomena in the whole city. The period of illegal street-art has became past. Like this 'Old Bird' is telling us.
I don't know who created this picture. I have seen many pieces of him or her - also sprayed, and in the same lines and style. And the faces look always a little sleepy and very quite.
