What better place to read some Poe than in the ridiculously scary basement of our apartment block? From a 1914 essay by Alma Bloun:

Poe, who studied sound effects carefully, says that he chose "Nevermore" as the refrain for The Raven largely because the word contains the most sonorous vowel, o, and the most "producible" consonant, r. An amusing story is told of an Italian lady who knew not a word of English, but who, when she heard the word cellar-door, was convinced that English must be a most musical language. If the word were not in our minds hopelessly attached to a humble significance, we, too, might be charmed by its combination of spirant, liquids, and vowels.

Not that many beaches in the world have been 'invaded' by Invader. One of the 48 beaches of Antibes has been invaded. This one is the result of a re-activation as the original of 2007 had been deleted. Had to wait half an hour for direct sunlight which was no problem, waiting at the waterfront was not a problem. Parking was a huge problem here. "WELL PLAYED" is the message of FlashInvaders when you find this one.

INVASION OF THE CÔTE D’AZUR

In the year 2007 Invader has invaded the entire coast of the French Rivièra. Instead of only one city he made a project of an entire region; Côte d’Azur. Spread out from La Ciotat to the Menton near the border of Italy.

The first wave consisted of 35 space invaders spread out over 24 cities with a total score of 990 points. In 2016 Invader put one invader up in Cavalaire-sur-Mer (CAZ_36) and in 2017 wave number 3 consisted another single one (CAZ_37).

Lots of them have been deleted throughout the years but there are already are about 9 space invaders re-activated.

McDonald's Antibes Ouest 11/06/2017 11h53

One of the three McDonald's restaurants in Antibes. This one located along the former Route Nationale 7 (now D6007). The two others are located North of the center, one instore in the same building as Carrefour hypermarket and the other one close to this instore near the exit of the autoroute A8.

Burger King has one restaurant as we speak (*September 2017), a former Quick restaurant (Quick has left this area). The nearest KFC restaurants are in Nice (2) and Cannes (2).

Plage des Ondes | Boulevard Maréchal Juin 11/06/2017 10h47

Plage des Ondes is one of the 48 beaches along the 25 km of coastline that surround Antibes and Juan les Pins. And this beach is one of the view beaches on the planet which is 'invaded'.

Antibes

Antibes is a Mediterranean resort in the Alpes-Maritimes department of southeastern France, on the Côte d'Azur between Cannes and Nice.

The town of Juan-les-Pins is in the commune of Antibes and the Sophia Antipolis technology park is northwest of it.

From around the middle of the 19th century the Antibes area regained its popularity, as wealthy people from around Europe discovered its natural beauty and built luxurious homes there. It was transferred from its former department of Var to the new one of Alpes Maritimes in 1860. he harbor was again used for a "considerable" fishing industry and the area exported dried fruit, salt fish, and oil.

Population: 75.000 (ca)

Area; 26.48 km2

Density: 2900 /km2

Elevation: 0–163 m
