Science World at Telus World of Science, is a science centre run by a not-for-profit organization.

This geodesic dome ( golf ball shaped ) building was constructed for Expo '86. It was opened in 1985 as the Expo preview center and became the Expo '86 World's Fair Centre.

The height is 155 feet tall with a foundation of reinforced steel in a cement slab.

The dome is supported by 182 piles

There are 391 lights and 766 triangles on the Science World dome.

Constructed using 15,000 pounds of extruded aluminium and aluminium panels on the dome. The panels are 1 mm thick and are covered with a vinyl surface.

Science World has a total building area of 10,220 square metres and a total exhibit area of 4,275 square metres. The building’s volume is 36,790 cubic metres.

The air-conditioning system uses chilled water for cooling and gas-fired boilers for heating.

The OMIMAX Theatre seats 400 people

The screen is 27 metres in diameter. The theatre’s sound system uses high-fidelity, six-channel, two-way sound with sub-bass to create an unparalleled surround sound experience.

I read that the 15,000 watt xenon lamp that lights the movie screen is so bright that if it was placed on the surface of the moon and focused it at a spot on Earth, you would actually see its light.

One of the feistiest hummingbirds in North America, states Cornell's allaboutbirds.org site. Weighing less than a golfball, and to me they seem almost the same size.

A joy to see. Most other birds seem to be scarce while an eagle pair patrol our back forty.

After months without rain, a violent hailstorm over the hills of Soave, Veneto, Northern Italy. Looking toward the Illasi valley from Castelcerino.

Five minutes later, we were engulfed with hailstones the size of golfballs, but had the time to seek cover.

Macro Mondays-"Made of Metal"

A huge golf ball sits on the first tee at the newly-opened Alnwick Moor golf course awaiting the arrival of celebrity guests Hagrid and Grawp. The 62,220 yard course is latest addition to the area's amenities.

It has been created to avoid any hints of discrimination against 'big folk' following the opening last week of the children's fantasy playground 'Lilidorei at The Alnwick Garden', the £15.5m creation of the Duchess of Northumberland.

RSPB Minsmere in the shadow of Sizewell nuclear power station, which will eventually become Sizewell C. Although the plans will create many low carbon jobs, they are not without jeopardy to the beautiful iconic bird and nature reserve.

As the boring and not so very photogenic rainy weather continues, I keep posting photos which I took on a snowy day in January on the local golf course. This scenery doesn't look like a golf course at all but what I love about this place is the fact that it includes many rather 'wild' looking areas which are great for wildlife. The downside is that if your golfball lands in there you will probably never find it again. :)

Though the sun is shining at the moment, this winter seems to have been a long, very wet and certainly very windy one (still 35 mph gusts this morning).

So I've pulled this out of my Flickr possibles folder to get a dose of sun & warmth, if only by proxy!

This field with the crop taken over by poppies was just out of Alnwick (marked as Harlaw Hill on the OS map) and the view is towards Alnwick Moor with the Golf Ball visible of the skyline.

-but I know someone who thinks that snowy winter does not stop golf season.
