Very persistent little plant at Caberinho, São Nicolay, Cape Verde.

My last day in the Badlands was preceded by a rainy night that just caused the rock and grasslands in this ravine of the Yellow Mounds to be lushly saturated with color.

Despite being only 7am, there was a photographer taking photos of a good-sized wedding/engagement party using this scene as their backdrop. These early birds were already dressed to the 9's - now that's an early wake-up call! What a beautiful place and morning!

Today I finally got some time to sit down and think and try to come up with some ideas. I started going through my journals that I keep for photo ideas. I came across this image in the first-half journal. This was one of my first ideas for the project that was never conceived. I'm glad I could make it happen today. And I have had this desire in my body for as long as I can remember, so that was a nice milestone as well.

Oh yeah, and this is number two-hundred fifty. Crazy. Can't wait to be done.

Dear friend Sarah....

@ 7 months pregnant for baby Felix....Future mom, horticulturist, jewelry designer, dancer, sweetest person ever and then more!...:)))

The girl in front is about to complete her first "commute" into town, about a 6-mile one way trip. Our family caught up with them as they were leaving our neighborhood.

Two 45 Gallon Totes by Sterlite + the Go Getter bag provide 340 liters of hauling volume

Up to 300 lbs of cargo reasonably hauled (in addition to the rider)

Bar mitts keep hands warm without bulky gloves or mittens

Schwable Winter Marathon carbide-studded tires for traction on ice

Electric system provides up to 20 mph of assist reliably for 20 continous miles (longer if you pedal more)

Much less effort getting up hills, even with a load.

Bright front and rear LED lights are powered by pedaling if battery fails

Super-stable double-sided kickstand

Recharges overnight in the garage for pennies

We’re able to haul more stuff further, faster, with less effort and greater comfort than ever before (like loads of recycled computers, or two children and camping gear). Compared to the alternative of having a second car, the system more than pays for itself.

My electric Yuba Mundo was built and sold by Cycle 9. Trailer by Bikes at Work is expandable to 8 feet for longer loads, like couches. Combining this trailer with this bike currently requires a bit of custom welding.

This is a Mundo Lux. She's trying out a non-electric Mundo this time. She's excited about the "Monkey bars" on the back, although at least for now we lose the flexibility of attaching a Burley Piccolo to it.

Thanks to Revolution Bike and Bean in Bloomington, IN for putting it together for us!

This is a short video to show the electric Yuba Mundo cargo bike in action carrying two children and about a trailer with camping gear for a family of four.

The total estimated weight of the bike, riders and cargo is about 450 lbs.

Even with all this weight, she averaged about 12 to 13 mph over a course with some hills and wind. This was about my natural speed as well over the route-- she was sometimes a bit faster and sometimes a bit slower.

One thing you'll notice in the video is how quiet the motor is. You can barely hear it in both parts of the clip.
