The last week of February 2022, to me, was one of the darkest weeks in our collective world history.
On top of all the existing problems, critical issues, and pressing challenges the world is already facing, a completely unnecessary and avoidable war in Eastern Europe erupted. This event and the resulting humanitarian toll are complete anathema to me.
I am angry about the absurdity. I am concerned for my friends and contacts in Europe. I am stressed about the uncertainty of what might or might not occur in the short-term and long-term with the aggressor. I also feel useless and powerless to do anything to counter this...but I am heartened by the resolve and determination of the Ukrainians.
On Saturday morning, after all the terrible news that very few of us could ignore, I woke up to this scene from the balcony of my home in Seattle -- an auspicious dawn featuring Mount Rainier on the horizon. I can only hope to take the occurrence as something positive.

They are struggling now to keep it open to the public. Kuhn Hotel Belen.
The hotel was first opened in 1906 right next to the railroad station. It prvided accommodation for the conductors, engineers, and the railroaders. Now empty and abandoned. In 2020 it was hoped to raise enough money via a gofundme page to repair the roof and windows but so far no repairs have been done.

There's no Blog or Tuneage or location that goes with this Particular Photo . Just The statement that Black Live Matter .I don't understand why theirs so much controversy with this Statement .and why these Three little words seems so appalling and triggering to others who are not black .
Right now there are a lot people protesting in other countries and finally having educational conversations on this subject . I hope at least that when it dies down that this is not taken as a "FAD" and this starts to be the beginning of real change . That people take steps and accountability into making into shaping the present so we have a better future. This picture is in a way in memory of someone I did not know. He was a young man who has just died of Covid and lived in a small village near me. He had a very young family and unfortunately he had no life insurance. We have all been there and we have all put insurance off because we cannot afford it when we just start out and we think it will never happen to us when we are young. The Paz de las Aves's people call it very appropriated the Shakira as she perform an uninterrupted belly dance. Very, very funny to see but terrible to allow us an unshaken shot.
This is one of five antpittas species possible to see at Paz de las Aves. We had the opportunity to see 4 of them in a single morning.

Until some years ago I didn't know about antbirds, antpittas and so on. My idea of tropical bird was parrots, hummingbirds and tucanos, but now I easily give up on a common colorful bird to have the opportunity to photograph a tapaculo or a antpitta. However those species are not easy to spot and even more difficult to photograph and the probablility of see one without help of local guide is very low if not zero.
In Refugio Paz de las Aves, Angel Paz with his brother Rodrigo was one of the first to realize they can attract this (once near-mythical) bird with worms.
Every day, very early in the morning, Rodrigo digs a well in the ground to collect the worms and, he explained to me, cuts them into small segments so that the bird doesn't catch just one and disappear again into the deep forest, without giving the observers a chance to observe and photograph it.
Now they face the wish of the other seven siblings to sell the property. You may see here all the story.

These tinderlings are so much more fun than I had ever anticipated - they have SO many color and particle options...you can change virtually everything on each of them, turn glow/particle options on or off, change colors on every part, etc. These come in both Tiny and Regular Avi size and are just a blast to wear. You won't find anything like them anywhere in Second Life...

Lol, this is my selfie taken today with my new spectacles that have a silvery purple frame to match most of my purple hued colored colored clothes. So happy to be recovering from stage three breast cancer - cancer free, without having to undergo radiation treatment, but continuing with the immunotherapy treatments. Taken on a day that was dry for once, while in Whitby. We took the steam train to Goathland, leaving Antonio to game, he doesn’t like steam trains or Goathland now he’s almost a fully fledged adult. 😂 We had 2 days at Goathland, one to capture the station and another to include some of the free roaming sheep in the village and to meet with our Flickr friend, Stephen. (Pixelda) a wonderful landscape photographer.

Teddy was rescued by my friend Susan. He had been dumped at a farm when he was a kitten, wearing a collar which became too small as he grew. His skin was growing around the collar, and the collar was dangerously tight. Susan got him the necessary medical care and found him a good home.

Another photo from my west Texas trip digitally manipulated to look like a painting. I'm having fun running my images through multiple filters to see how far I can push them. It does help that I've been an oil painter most of my life.
This was taken on a trail at the beginning of a slot canyon where the trail involved some boulder scrambling.
Through many wilderness areas and canyons in my lifetime I have trekked not knowing what was around the bend.
I think all of us in the USA are looking to see what's around the bend right now, hoping our navigational skills will get us through the rough spots.

Synchronicity strikes again! I wasn't thrilled about the photo of moi we had posted on GoFundMe www.gofundme.com/care-for-katharine (no makeup, bum lighting, no photoshopping) and was kind of wracking my brain with the thought 'Who do I know who is a professional photographer?!' when a message came in from Candace Freeland, a woman I knew years ago when we both lived in a small town in Iowa. I had not seen her in decades. She lives 20 minutes from our house. She is a professional photographer!!
She was very happy to come to our house (bringing makeup with her ... I no longer own any), and then lit & photographed me, and photoshopped an image after the fact that I feel good about because it brings out more light and life. This is it. Either this chain of events was a wildly unlikely coincidence or my guardian angel is exquisitely alert and responsive. I lean toward the latter. Thank you, Candace!

Round six of eight chemo sessions with the new medication was a little less painful with the help of T3s, but still severe bone aches and fatigue. We are now counting down to when we'll have to vacate our current residence and still no way to cover the expense on my limited sick benefits, the actual move and basic bills like cellphone and car payments. Round five of the chemo sessions with different medications was a real trial with painful side affects in the bones. There will be three more sessions, then surgery followed up with radiation therapy. I haven't been able to do any photography but I have been painting some of my photos, and will start posting them here in Flickr.. My friend Dave in America saw the urgent need
for more protection from the alien invasion happening
on the roof at The Dog Palace. This is very serious business !
By wire, Dave sent out an international alert for any
one who is willing to take on this treacherous task .
This is where the men are separated from the boys !
One brave soul named Mikes from B.C Canada
stood up and volunteered for this dangerous job.
A job not suited for the weak or faint of heart !
With in hours Rocky was fitted with his Super Dog
Cape and can now protect all the other Hooligans
that take up residents on the roof at The Dog Palace.
A quick message was sent to Erich VonDaniken as to the
strength of this new cape. He in turn contacted another
ancient alien theorist by the name of David Childress.
They in turn both contacted Anthony Bourdain and all,
collectively said with the new stealth technology in-bedded
in this cape it is the state of the art stuff. High quality gear.
Not even Kryptonite in it's green form will have any affect.
Also I asked why the aliens are so interested in the roof
at The Dog Palace ?
They all replied,
"Cuz there's some powerful MoJo going on there between
man and beast and they want to tap into it for scientific reasons".
Alright ladies and gentlemen, I feel at this point, we, meaning
all of us, need to stand and give the appropriate alien salute.
A salute not only for all international friendship but also for the far off Galaxies. One that will echo throughout the Milky-way and reach into hyperspace for the hard of hearing .

Nothing standing in this photo remains. Some described it as a “fire hurricane.” The devastation of the West Maul wildfires that began on August 8, 2023, was massive, and displacement of the local population of Lahaina nearly complete. Thousands of buildings were destroyed; thousands of people now have nowhere to live or work.

Today I received some extremely heartbreaking news; My SL brother, who has in every way except biologically, become my brother IRL, has passed away. He was someone who was so kind and gentle but ferociously protective of his loved ones. He played a wizard on my sim and on Mischief Managed where my love for the Harry Potter roleplay genre began. I can truly thank him for so much in my life. He constantly uplifted and inspired me to keep doing more, to keep getting better. So while I've been procrastinating this shot for days, I thought it was time to do it because there was no better reason to fly to the moon than to take my brother there. I know you will always be with me Ryan and I will never stop missing you. When I look up at Luna I will know you are with her and shinning down on me. I love you so very much RyRy.

If you've not followed the news on the Big Sur fire it was devastating, and so many people were so drastically affected. The road to Pfeiffer is currently closed due to the fire so our host took us the back way, high into the hills where we could see the damage and finally down into the entrance to Pfeiffer.
Sunday we had Pfeiffer Beach all to ourselves. That's completely unheard of this time of year as photographers from around the world flock to the famous beach to witness the sun set directly in the keyhole arch. But Sunday we were the only ones (other than a handful of locals and a few brave workers who'd helped contained the fire) and the conditions were perfect. No footprints in front of the arch. None. It was said, "we are the luckiest photographers on the planet," and I couldn't agree more.
Kodiak Greenwood it was an absolute honor to meet you. I can't wait to see your shots from tonight and hope to see you again soon. All the best and I really can't thank you enough for giving us the opportunity to experience Pfeiffer in such a remarkable way.

It is with great sadness to inform everyone that my sweet Amanda passed away today. They said she was severely anemic and was trying to pass on. I was with her in her last moments and it was just her time. She's been the best dog anyone could have for 10 years.
