While five days is too short to properly explore the Faroe Islands, we lucked out with spectacular weather that made taking in the country's dramatic landscapes an absolute pleasure. While people often talk about the Faroe Islands as being very similar to Iceland, Scotland or Norway the truth is it is its own distinct destination with raw shoreline and distinct geological formations that make it truly unique to experience and explore.

We started our day early and headed east towards Glacier National Park. Instead of taking the main road to the entrance, I suggested driving the longer way around to explore, why not? We are glad we took the path less traveled because we saw some awesome sights all around the Apgar Mountains!

Mini Series: Frontier Town
2020 was a rough year for me (and many, many others) - This series captures part of a much needed camping trip. Being around family, eating, laughing, and exploring the grounds in our little golf-cart. It was so simple, but a perfect reminder of where I needed to be. It was a long year being away from my family due to Covid. I missed the dogs, my Mom’s cooking, laughing with my sister, hearing stories from my Dad, playing with my nephews, and even the familiar smell of the camper. It was off-season at Frontier Town, so it was pretty quiet, but relaxing. The campground sits right on a cove off of Chincoteague Bay. My family has visited the coasts of Maryland since I was born, so it always felt like a second home: the plants, trees, sound of the bay, sand, ocean breezes. It’s right where I needed to be.
- Day Two -
After watching the early sunrise over the mountains for the first time, we headed into Gatlinburg.
We stopped at Herbert Holt Park on the outskirts of town. While wandering around, a park worker pointed out a bald eagle to Mom & I. We explored around there for a bit and then drove through Gatlinburg, which was a busy, but interesting town.
We could certainly have spent time (and money!) there, but with Covid-19, we gladly headed towards the woods & mountains instead.
Weaving around corners and making our way upwards, we reached the peaks named "Chimney Tops". Neither of us expected to see mountains and ridges quite like that, which was a genuine surprise. We were getting into the heart of it!
'High above the chimney tops, that's where you'll find me.'
- Day Four -
After our trip around Apgar Mountains, we headed eastward. We drove route 2 through the Rocky Mountains until we met the rolling hills and plains. It felt like we were in a western movie; we even saw buffalo to top it off! We drove out to the town of Browning, where we met a woman in a curio store. She was very knowledgeable & gave us a map to our next destination - Two Medicine Lake & Running Eagle Falls. We saw some beautiful & curious things along the way!
