Couldn't resist posting this short video of our visitors yesterday! Mama, Papa and their rapidly growing chicks (or poults) love roaming in and out of our back gardens, usually strutting up the hill and crossing through the front yard, hesitating before they all quickly prance over our busy (former country) road.
Make sure you watch 'til the end to see the wingie thingie! LOL
Yes, there is a *bench* in the beginning of this video!
. . . Total of 5 turkeys, in all sizes, appeared in our backyard a few weeks ago . . . not necessarily in this exact order, but at the same time . . . yes . . . and believe it or not, the vagrant cat was totally unfazed!
Happy Thanksgiving to all who celebrate!

I may not be available for a few days as I dress the turkey and try and figure out what to wear myself!

THEY WEREN'T THINKING ABOUT GIBLET DRESSING!
'Twas an hour before noon, when all through the house
not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse....
when what to my wandering eyes should appear
in the back yard, yes, that's correct, my dear . . .
Out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the counter to see what was the matter.
Into the window I almost did crash
as I grabbed my camera and turned off the flash! ~ a ledzian ~
“In the old days, I'm ashamed to say, I recommended not wearing hearing protection while hunting ...
We felt it was more dangerous not to be able to hear a rattlesnake, a warning or another hunter.
And we wanted to be able to hear the steps of a deer or the gobble of a distant wild turkey.”
~ Bob Walker ~
HAVE A GREAT DAY, FOLKS.....I got a bit distracted an hour ago . . . back to work!
Catch you all later, unless the Easter Bunny shows up!
note: Since I uploaded these gobblers this morning, I shifted their sequence and added a 'DETAIL' which I thought was much more interesting! We actually carve turkey feathers and use them as quills!
(This was the only shot I got outside when I crept up on them from behind . . . and yes, I was still in my robe and slippers . . . and no, I don't play the tag game!)
Re: BLESSINGS

May all God's blessings descend upon you.
May peace be within you
May your heart be strong.
May you find what you're seeking wherever you roam.”

Re: THANKS
“When I first open my eyes upon the morning meadows
and look out upon the beautiful world,
I thank God I am alive.”

Re: REALITY
“Thanksgiving dinners take eighteen hours to prepare.
They are consumed in twelve minutes.
Halftimes take twelve minutes.
This is not coincidence.”
~ Erma Bombeck ~
“On Thanksgiving Day,
all over America,
families sit down to dinner
at the same moment -
halftime.”

Re: WISDOM
EAT TOMORROW
for the next day ye shall diet!
“Vegetables are a must on a diet.
I suggest carrot cake,
zucchini bread,
and pumpkin pie.”

without you I would have no reason to express myself.”

*THEY INDULGED FOR KEEPING INEVITABLE YEARNINGS*
Wanted to create a thank you for my cousins who invited us to New Hampshire for Thanksgiving.
Found these antique letter strips in my *stash* of ephemera and played around on my scanner and
in photoshop. My apologies to all my vegetarian friends!
“I hate turkeys.
If you stand in the meat section at the grocery store long enough,
you start to get mad at turkeys.
There's turkey ham,
turkey bologna,
turkey pastrami,
Some one needs to tell the turkey,
man, just be yourself.”
~ Mitch Hedberg ~
We headed out to Turkey Run State Park in Indiana. We had barely arrived when we ran across these two birdbrains. They weren't running though.
Hellooooooooo out there in flickrland....yes, I'm still alive...barely! No, seriously, all is fine...have been swamped with finishing up the renovation, getting orders ready for the holidays, playing, sewing, painting, needle felting, collaging (ok...doing art)....
Didn't want to post because I couldn't get back to everyone....so please forgive me for uploading and running again....I promise to visit you all next week some time....I've missed our visits.
Meanwhile, thanks for your concern about my whereabouts and know that I wish you all a very happy, vegetarian Thanksgiving!

I was dragging my feet on going out for a bike ride after work yesterday, but in the end it was so worth it. First of all, it was gorgeous, perfect biking weather. 65 degrees, light breeze, sunny but late enough in the evening that it wasn't too bright. Second of all, I got to stop halfway up the longest hill on the route (a.k.a. "Suffering Is Happiness Hill") to take this picture of the gorgeous sunset. I was serenaded by a million, billion peepers while the sky turned orange. Does it get better? Third of all, yes it does get better. Because less than a mile later, I saw WILD TURKEYS!!! Wild turkeys are pretty much my second favorite "can sort of be expected to spot them around here" wildlife sighting after pheasants, so it was terribly exciting for me. At one point on my ride I spontaneously thought, "Why on Earth would I rather be at home napping than be out on my bike enjoying this glorious evening?!" A split second later I thought, "Uh, there are a thousand good reasons why I'd rather be at home napping" but for a moment, there was nowhere I'd rather have been than on my bike, outdoors. Toto, we're not a lazyass indoor kid anymore.

Nathan and I got our engagement pictures taken today. My parents were writing out the invites over the weekend and I wanted to put a picture in. So it was kinda last minute. I went home and changed out of my nice clothes right away. That would be a pretty funny engagement picture. Us in our t-shirts and holey jeans. Then we drove back to his place to relax a little bit.

Post-race, crowds hanging out in Davis Square. The line to get in the Burren was clear back through the intersection.
Later, when we were at Billie Creek Historic Village in Rockville Indiana, I saw the same two characters. They were arguing about which house to buy.
We made hand turkeys for Thanksgiving. Cabhán called them ducks, so I taught him to go "gobblegobblegobble" instead of "quack"
