Major General Keith Thurgood addressed a Urban League of Greater New Orleans luncheon on the sidelines of the Essence Music Festival.

 

Thurgood has over 28 years of Army service, both Active and Reserve and has been mobilized for two active duty tours since Sept. 11, 2001. In his civilian capacity, he is the president and CEO of Overseas Military Sales Corporation.

 

Personal awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, two Meritorious Service Medals, three Army Commendation Medals, and the Army Achievement Medal, among others.

The 82nd Airborne Division's All-American Chorus performed at the Army Strong stage at Essence Music Festival.

 

Formed in 1967, the All-American Chorus is a musical group composed of Division Troopers representing every unit within the Division.

Spcs. Leonard Korir and Shadrack Kipchichir finish 14th and 19th respectively in the men's 3,000-meter run Aug. 13 at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. Both Soldiers in the U.S. Army World Class Athlete Program turned in their season-best performaces, with Korir finishing in 27 minutes, 58.65 seconds and Kipchirchir clocked at 27:58.32. Mohamed Farah of Great Britain successfully defended his Olympic crown by winning the race in 27:05.17. Paul Kipnetech Tanui of Kenya took the silver in 27:05.64, and Tamirat Tola of Ethiopia claimed the bronze in 27:06.27.
