We head up to Mt Adams Thursday evening. The question is given 200% of snow levels this year how far up the logging road will we have to walk? I think between mile marker 7 and 8 is where the road is supposed to be blocked by snow. We'll have to see how high we get Friday and where we camp Friday night.

K2 class 1211 nearest the bollards and K1 class 1264 by the curb, both with Leyland bodies and chassis, built in 1938. The trolley just about to pass under the bridge also looks like a EXV number plate and by the curve above the platform is almost certainly a Leyland.
A gmaps check shows that the bridge and the buildings are still there, but changed a little.

Unfortunately, I can't even make out my own house. But it is in approximately the center of this photo. I've lived there in Mill Valley on Reed Street for almost 15 years so even if this was photographed 6 years ago, my house is still in there. My point is that I live in an area that is covered with trees and vegitation. This was a shock to my system when I moved from North Beach in SF shortly after the earthquake.

In 118 BC, Cneus Domitius Ahenobarbus and his legions crossed the Rhone after having left Rome and entered Gaul by the Mont Genèvre Pass in the Alps. Domitius took the route that one hundred years before, Hannibal had taken in the opposite direction, and like his illustrious predecessor, he rode an elephant. His mission is to establish a road allowing communication all year round and to set up garrisons to protect the first areas of Roman colonization, such as Narbonne.
He built a prestigious military road which came to be named after him: the Via Domitia. The road rapidly developed into a major means of communication and trade. So it was that the first Roman activity in Gaul was to build a road – the most ancient road in France.
The road allows Rome to organize southern Gaul according to its wishes by redistributing the arable land to the Roman settlers (cadastration) and by building new towns. As well as the trade that developed between Rome and the colonial settlements, there was an enormous amount of contact between neighboring towns and staging posts all along the road, which gave great impetus to the local economy.
A typical landscape of the Belknap series in an area of Belknap silt loam, 0 to 2 percent slopes, occasionally flooded from Daviess County, Kentucky. (Photo provided by John Kelley, USDA-NRCS).
Belknap soils make up an important part of the valley‐bottom or floodplain agricultural zones. Because much of the land along rivers and streams falls into this soil class, what farmers can do with Belknap often helps determine agricultural productivity in those areas.
In areas where drainage is improved (through tiling, drainage ditches) or where occasional flooding is accounted for, Belknap soils support good yields of major crops. In contrast, fields without adequate drainage or on low floodplain benches may be more marginal.
Additionally, Belknap soils also support native hardwoods and bottomland forest communities, which historically (and in places today) play a role in the landscape mosaic.

I think we have been to Huband Bridge before, I remember a conversation about a bolt on toilet! We have selected this transport related photograph (canal!) to celebrate International Women's Day, it would make it a great day if we could identify the two women (and the two men) sitting on the lock gate.

I'm a bit mystified by these as from what I'm aware Veit does not run any regular MSW collection services. Therefore I'm not really sure what they are used for. The building they are by appeared to be a small apartment or office building of some sort. These have also been there for a number of years as they were pictured in 2012 on Gmaps.
Please Note: This and other photos taken during this time were all obtained while following local social distancing guidelines and practicing other precautions against the spread of the virus.

Dr. Webb looks quite fiercely focused in this studio portrait. Perhaps he was pondering serious matters? Or perhaps he just hated having his photograph taken? Either way, we'd love to find out a lot more about Dr. Webb.

À la base un simple bureau de change de la fin du XIXe siècle, elle se diversifia rapidement puis continua a fournir des services de qualité à ses clients et permis à cette petite entreprise zurichoise de devenir une entité internationale avec des succursales dans le monde entier. According to Tom Young LTSVs on 737J. 1960 was the period when it carried 771GH trade plates. Also, route 628 ceased to run on 20 July 1960. Ref: - Ian Armstrong’s Trolley Bus Replacement program 1959 - 1962.
1962 saw the end for this lorry with LT. All London trolleybuses ended the same year.
The wagon had an after life, see comments.
The big red wagon certainly attracted the attention of the small boy on the tricycle. Who in turn is being kept an eye on by the worker with the coil of wire, presumably just removed from the lorry. K1 Trolley 1279 passes.
A Morris Minor van has teddy bear ear winkers. No need for help where the photo was taken. Hammersmith Trolleybus Depot on the building locates the shot. Looks very much like a hospital building behind that. Although, cannot locate the now spot on Gmaps.

That's a 1980 Mazda 626 2-door that my best friend Tom and I took on a 2-week driving trip in order to avoid predicted traffic jams during the Olympic Games that were being hosted by Los Angeles that Summer of 1984. Our 6000+ mile trip took us from California through Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming, Nebraska, South Dakota, Montana, Alberta, British Columbia, Washington, Oregon and back to California.
I wish that I had come across this Polaroid shot maybe 5 years ago because it would have precisely answered a question that Tom had posed to me about the location. He and his wife were searching for a spot for their retirement home at the time and he was trying to remember where this place in Montana was because of its spaciousness and beauty. Tom and his wife did buy a beautiful home in northern Washington not far from the US-Canada border. Sadly, Tom passed away earlier this year and I’m certain that he would have gotten great pleasure out of seeing this photo.
Thoughts in retrospect have me wishing that I had also taken my 35mm film camera on the trip, a Pentax Spotmatic. That way I would have taken more photos on the adventure than the relatively pricey (and thus rare) Polaroid shots entailed.

6.77 miles, 29 minutes. I don't plot routes - just point the bike in the right direction and go, then comb back over the route on gmaps later. It's a pretty good way to learn a bit more about the city and works... 90% of the time anyway.
Today I rode my bicycle.
I rode for quite a while.
I rode and rode and rode.
36 miles in all
This is the route:
www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=996031
Along the way I saw and heard many things.
I also smelled the wonderful smells of spring in the air.
We have a species which is called invasive,
but it smells wonderful: The multiflora rose,
It can be found everywhere and smells like a cultivated rose.
There are many other wonderful smells as well,
like the beauty bush.
Around mile 5 I rode down along the Allegheny River.
What a really cool sight, down by a lock and dam.
There was a steel mill there as well. Not everything is beautiful.
As I rode up a really steep hill coming from the river,
I noted how beautiful the steep valleys remain, those
places where man cannot or dares not encroach upon.
Green beech and maple lined streams with so many birds singing,
like the yellow warblers, hooded warblers, wood thrush,
robins, indigo bunting, and even a white eyed vireo.
Riding up the hills is a challenge, and to me there
is a rush from exercise, a sort of natural adrenalin high.
Riding down the hills is wonderful, like a bird flying
through the air is how I feel.
Around mile 14 I arrived at Northmoreland Park.
I stopped there for a while to replenish my energy,
and watched all the folks enjoying their holiday by the lake.
This lake has great memories for me, I so often took my daughter
there to walk or bicycle. Here I photographed the 'Inchworm'
Then I rode on to the area where I used to live.
I stopped by a friends house, a wonderful house in the
country. She has a Welsh pony named Emily (that photo to follow).
Her land is so superb, I hope she realizes her dream to
have it preserved in a natural state.
By mile 25 I was skirting Murrysville, the place where I
grew up as a boy. At that point I was starting to fatigue,
so instead of my original plan to do a tour I decided to
head back. From this point onward my legs were just pumping
with no pain, yet I knew there was fatigue. I felt sort of like a machine,
doing over 36 miles, but also felt great.
I was reminded of a short story by one of my favorite authors:
Mark Twain, Samuel Langhorne Clemens
"What is Man .. Man the Machine"
It is definitely worth the read.
I've added Notes and Comments to this photo. Here's a gMaps link for the Tea Gardens where the fire started, either at the arches or possibly the area just south down the road where there's a fire pit:
One of the stand-alone locations. This was a Pier 1 in 2007 based on Gmaps Streetview, so it was possibly built by the chain. I don't know if stand-alone stores were very common, most locations tended to be either in malls or strip plazas.
Pier 1 went into Chapter 11 bankruptcy in early 2020. All remaining physical stores were liquidated and closed for good on October 31st, 2020. The brand rights were bought up by a business venture and the Pier 1 brand continues to operate through online e-commerce sales.

A typical landscape of the Coxville series in an area of Coxville sandy loam, 0 to 2 percent slopes from the Soil Survey of Lee County, South Carolina (Photo provided by John Kelley, USDA-NRCS).
Preparing for spring planting in an area of Coxville soil (in a Carolina Bay in the foreground) and Norfolk soil (on an interfluve in the background). Note the severely eroded shoulder slope, exposing the upper reddish-brown subsoil of the Norfolk soil. Cultivating on the slope contour (instead of up and down the slope) will help reduce erosion and conserve soil moisture.
For more information about the Lee County soil survey, visit;
www.nrcs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_MANUSCRIPTS/south_carolina...
Coxville soils are very deep and poorly drained. The have moderately slow permeability and formed in marine deposits or fluviomarine sediments. They are commonly on lower to upper coastal plain flats and in Carolina bays or depressions on slopes of 0 to 2 percent.
TAXONOMIC CLASS: Fine, kaolinitic, thermic Typic Paleaquults
USE AND VEGETATION:
Major Uses: Forest, some pasture and cropland
Dominant Vegetation: Where cultivated--corn, soybeans, and truck crops. Where wooded--loblolly and longleaf pine, sweetgum, blackgum, water oak, willow oak, water tupelo, elm, and hickory.
DISTRIBUTION AND EXTENT:
Distribution: Coastal Plain of North Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, and possibly Virginia and Louisiana
Extent: Large
