Week 4 - Architecture
All photography efforts this week have had to be indoors, due to bucketing rain, so very handy that I passed through this monument to a blend of old and new in the form of St Pancras International station. This is the view across the upper and original level of the station where trains have always arrived and departed. On the left is the Eurostar terminal, and behind me the East Midlands terminal for trains to Sheffield and Derby.
At the far end is the famous Gilbert Scott building, the best recognised of all the elements of St Pancras, now the Renaissance Hotel.
The lower level used to be the storage areas of the station, beautifully restored with lots of original features, which have been converted into retail units, and the departure and arrivals area for the Eurostar trains.
