My glass is half full!
Here's to a wonderful Flickr year shared in 2016 and many more adventures just around the corner in 2017. Cheers and Happy New Year everyone!!!
.Decided to do a test shoot last night while I enjoyed a glass of wine. Foreign Affair is one of my favorite Ontario wines from the Niagara region. I am realizing though my propping skills need some work (thats why I like to work with stylists). Mac users: The default color space for the internet is sRBG. PCs automatically use this space. Macs, however, use Color LCD. Why Apple uses a color space that is not used by most of the internet is beyond me. But we can fix that. To properly view photos on the internet, you have to change the default Mac color space. Please go to System Preferences => Display => Color => sRBG.

I was having a delicious beer with my Sister and Brother in Law at their fantastic barn, which is surrounded by oil seed rape fields. It made me realize that my glass is half full!
I am always (or at least I try to be) a “Half full” kind a guy! What about you? ;-)

Strobist: SB-24 + red-orange gel on speaker, camera left and slightly behind subject; Yongnuo 560II + golden yellow gel on sofa arm, camera right and slightly behind subject; SB-700 with snoot camera right, on stand on sofa, slightly in front and above subject. I'd have liked one more behind the subject too for rim lighting but I ran out of speedlights. Yongnuo radio trigger. Any physicist can tell you the glass is always full; nature abhors a vacuum.
So there we were next door to Marsha and Harry on the deck of room #35 at the Hotel Catalina. Harry was into slurping vino tinto for Happy Hour. Harry decided to mess with his camera and try a few shallow DoF shots using a wine glass as prop.
All was going well until Marsha, mad as she could get as Harry hadn't noticed the lovely new gown she selected for tonights dinner, waltzes up and places her "big fat thumb" (Harry's words) on Harry's wine glass ruining what Harry thought would have been a winning shot with the perfect water droplets formed on the chilled glass.
All hell broke loose, the hotel staff finally came and escorted Harry off to visit the local police. Marsha, crying and now miserable having her evening ruined once again by her incorrigible hubby Harry, retired to her room.
So, with Harry and Marsha out of the picture, why not mess with my camera and Harry's wine glass?
WoooHooo!
The failed result.
As has been the case for more years than anyone can remember, Tom Gagnon's plots at the community gardens are filled with Purpletop Vervain (Verbena bonariensis), red and yellow zinnia, Butterfly Bushes (Buddleja) and, of course, butterflies.
If you look closely you'll see a little Cabbage White (Pieris rapae) on a stem of Purpletop Vervain drinking nectar.
The world is far from perfect but on this afternoon the glass was more than half full. :)
(+2 in comments) Ok, I've been tagged so many times. Finally, I'm getting around to it!
1. Sometimes I like to sleep in tights.
2. I read my Bible nightly.
3. I gave up pop for about 3 months and drank nothing but lemonaid and iced tea. (It didn't work out too well.)
4. I'm not too patient.
5. Recently, I really dig old school rap. But I hate the new stuff.
6. I can't stand people who try too hard to separate themselves from the crowd. You're fine how you are.
7. Wow. I'm lazy.
8. I sleep with Christmas lights on in my room.
9. My relationship with my mom just got really great.
10. I'm not too good with words. I'm good at empathy.
By the way. I really do love life. So much. I used to think it's not fair. But everything happens for a reason. I am satisfied. The reason we don't have something is because we don't need it.
I think that a relationship with God can totally change your outlook on everything.
Scratch that....I know that a relationship God can totally change your outlook on everything.

I did this last night and ran out of light. I was optimistic and decided on a retake this afternoon.

This is better. Rain glass overflowing this morning just a day and a half since the last shots alongside this one. Overcast, relatively cool AND wet! Yeehah! Hopefully the Wet season itself will start in earnest soon in Australia's Top End.

"5 Minutes 'til New Year's" : Remy brought her Nikon D700 to Michael & Sally's New Year's Eve party. At 5 minutes til midnight, with the excitement of the New Year upon us, my biggest desire was to snap a quick shot with a new and different camera (and lens, a 50mm). Here's to trying new and different things in the New Year!
How is this glass completely full?
50% air + 50% water = 100 percent full
That’s how.
Temperature is in the 90’s…enjoy the lemon water…and…Happy Friday
After many months since the last rains and intense daily temperatures, seeing the clouds gather so promisingly was great. Did this half full glass get filled? Not quite but 2mm was at least a start to break the oppressive build up weather.

I hope your glass is half full. This was an image I captured while snorkeling with my nephew during spring break at #napilishores on #Maui. #glasshalffull #mauilife #nikon1aw1 #luckyme #snorkelboy #lifeisgood #snapseed

Sunset just after the first sprinkle in the rain glass to give a tantalising glimpse of the coming Wet season, as well as welcome temporary relief from the oppressive heat of the Buildup. So many months since the last rains. When will more come?

It is admittedly not much of a photo but more an encapsulated 2D effigy of joy. This stuff is delightfully moreish, everything a grown man could want in a pint of beer. Just looking at it makes me happy.
The Timothy Taylor brewery is in Keighley (pronounced Keith-ly, somewhat inexplicably), West Yorkshire. They are well known for their high-quality ales - even Madonna claims she enjoys their most famous brew - Landlord.
Whilst Landlord is to be found in various parts of the UK - the bottled version is most toothsome - this is the bottom half of a pint of its lesser known brother, Golden Best. It is an excellent session beer - the second complements the first and calls for the third (ad vomitum). But importantly at 3.5% ABV, men of a certain age can manage a few lunchtime swifties without wanting to nod off shortly after.
For this prompt 'Repeat Repeat Repeat' I found a quote by Goldie Hawn that fit perfectly with what was in my head..."Three words I repeat to myself to be grateful for everything I have (Glass Half Full)" I used acrylics and found papers..stamps, Neocolors, and pen for this Altered Book page. #dycatchphrase 10/26
We all go through moments in life where we wonder our hypothetical life-glass is half full or half empty; we assess our viewpoint and determine if we are optimistic, pessimistic, or a blending of the two. As we begin the journey towards self-realization we are forced to understand how we view the world and accept that it is alright that we may view the world in a different light than other people.
