Smallest Australian nocturnal bird, primarily gray-brown with large eyes, relatively long tail, and "whiskers" on the face. During the day, usually seen only if one is peering out of a roosting hollow. Small size and near lack of eyeshine make this species also difficult to locate at night; the call, a loud, brief "chew," is the best way to locate one. (eBird)

Our guide had identified a suitable cavity in a tree that might just house an Owlet-Nightjar, so he went to take a look. As he stood on his toes to look into the hole, he knocked softly on the tree trunk. All of a sudden, he yelled and fell backwards. We all thought he had been bitten by something. Instead, this lovely little bird flew right at him, and then swerved and left the tree through another exit. It then landed on this branch and glared at us as our guide recovered his balance and his dignity :-)

The moon was just getting ready to set for the night. I was able to capture the reflection or glare of the moon on the patch of ice along the river. The orange glow to the right are the city lights of Anchorage

My home town

While driving one evening it started to rain. Luckily I was carrying my camera, which I often do these days. So I thought of experimenting and took multiple exposure of moving cars on the street. I was pleasantly surprised with the result. It's amazing how some random ideas can take such beautiful shape. All colors look so pretty through the windscreen covered in rain droplets. The multi-colored sky looks fascinating and the reflection of the cars on the road is so attractive.

Elizabeth Barrett Browning

I tell you, hopeless grief is passionless;

That only men incredulous of despair,

Half-taught in anguish, through the midnight air

Beat upward to God’s throne in loud access

Of shrieking and reproach. Full desertness,

In souls as countries, lieth silent-bare

Under the blanching, vertical eye-glare

Of the absolute heavens. Deep-hearted man, express

Grief for thy dead in silence like to death —

Most like a monumental statue set

In everlasting watch and moveless woe

Till itself crumble to the dust beneath.

Touch it; the marble eyelids are not wet:

If it could weep, it could arise and go.

I was delicately adjusting my camera’s manual focus trying to get the flowers refracted in the water drops in perfect detail. When I finally got it just the way I wanted the sun poked out from behind some tree branches, shined down on the water drops, and washed out my carefully crafted composition. This nuisance of nature required slight changes in perspective and aperture to compensate. Ah well, I suppose one man’s distracting glare is another’s spectacular sparkle.

This is the third and last photo from our Grundlsee-trip I´m going to post here on Flickr. Three totally different approaches, but each one taken with heart and soul.

It´s about time to plan the next trip...may the lightchase continue!

With hypnotic red eyes, this ambush predator patiently peers into the waters of a brackish wetland. The ‘auku’u, or black-crowned night-heron (Nycticorax nycticorax hoactli) is a well-adapted hunter, preying on fish, crustaceans, and frogs in an variety of waterways from mountain streams to urban drainage channels to coastal tide pools.

How can one let the photos reflect the heat, the sun, the glare on the old structures and still hold the feeling of vitnessing this old culture, working skills, and still some more

These are the final photos from a walk around Launceston's Royal Park beside the Tamar River. As you will have seen it was a fabulously bright afternoon. Outside the Tamar Yacht Club I wanted to try to express the feeling of warmth created by the sun on this beautiful Autumn afternoon. Here is a shot directly into the sun, lens flare and all.

A glow of the sun between the leafy branches of the forest trees...

Thank you so much! :)

My home town is Fiumefreddo Bruzio, its name derived from "Flumen Frigidum" which is latin for "cold river". This name is due to the stream thats flows along the hill on which the burgh is clinging. This picture was taken near the mouth, where the river flows into the sea.
