the 300 Spartans at The Battle of Thermopylae 480 BC.
A Greek force of approximately 7,000 men marched north to block the pass of the Persian Army, rumoured to have numbered over one million soldiers.
The King Leonidas, aware that his force was being outflanked, dismissed the bulk of the Greek army and remained to guard their retreat with 300 Spartans and 700 Thespians.
The remaining soldiers fought to the death.

Gladiolus takes its name from the Latin word gladius, which means “small sword”. This alludes to the leaves of the gladiolus; thin, pointed and erect, like a sword.
Gladiolus is closely linked to gladiators, who also share the same Latin origin, gladius: “sword”. In Roman times, at the end of a gladiator fight, the victorious fighter was covered in gladioli. “Death or gladioli”.
Today, it is not uncommon to find gladiolus among the flowers offered to the winner(s) of a sporting competition.

SPACE! Now with added concept-arty verticality. It took some doing, but I got it done in the end.
Very pleased with this, so I went overboard on the pictures. I'll take loads of internal ones when it falls apart.
And it will fall apart. The weapons pods will fall off the mounts, the engines will fall off the chassis, and the entire bottom wing will fall off. Oh, and the ship will fall off the stand. It's not happened yet, but it will.

Cable: nothin' special. Just thought the colors looked good on him. He’s got IW Bucky’s arm too.
Corvus Glaive: tried to pull off those weird ear-looking things he was missing. I like it. I saw Endgame on Thursday. Biblical movie to say the least.
ROM Spaceknight: old, old character. Besides the eyes I think he turned out great.
Rocket: had two of the same torso so I just glued a tail on one of them. I think it looks pretty good. Trims his height a bit too.

God damn. Teaching is so hard. It's exhausting, confusing, and yet so fulfilling. Sorry for being almost 2 months late with announcing the winners to my 1000 follower contest. Without further ado, here they are!
1st Place Winner: Andrew Cookston - "You're the closest thing to family I've got."
Andrew's gorgeous entry sold me the moment I looked at it. Billy Batson's nighttime visits to Tawky Tawny were one of my favorite things about his New 52 origin story and Andrew did a fantastic job at conveying the quiet solace of this memorable comic book moment. I wish that the lighting had been more dramatic and the angle a little closer but I'm nitpicking. :)
2nd Place: BrickTailor
While I haven't read anything from Red Son before (drag me), BrickTailor created a really page-accurate scene with a very thoughtful build layout and excellent lighting. The figs he created for the shot are really cleverly made, and whatever technique he used to suspend Superman in that position seems flawlessly implemented. Great job Scott!
3rd Place: Metarix - "The Perfect Earth Doesn't Need a Superman"
Metarix's shot is instantly recognizable and very neatly composed. The build is simple and small, but it fits the intimacy of the scene from Infinite Crisis. The choice of Rebirth WW as a figure is a little strange and the lighting could have been more dramatic, but it's still an excellent shot.
Honorable mentions: Ben Cossy's Savage Lands and Mysterio entries! Holy cow Ben, you have serious skill in landscape build techniques! I'd love to see more comic book scenes from you in the future, if that's your thing of course.
