The Perito Moreno Glacier (Spanish: Glaciar Perito Moreno) is a glacier located in the Los Glaciares National Park in southwest Santa Cruz Province, Argentina. It is one of the most important tourist attractions in the Argentinian Patagonia.
The glacier is unusual in that it is advancing, while most glaciers worldwide are retreating. The reason remains debated by glaciologists. The terminus of the Perito Moreno Glacier is 5 kilometres (3 mi) wide, with an average height of 74 m (240 ft) above the surface of the water of Argentino Lake, in Argentina. It has a total ice depth of 170 metres (558 ft).
Due to its size and accessibility, Perito Moreno is one of the major tourist attractions in southern Patagonia. It is less than two hours by bus from El Calafate, and many tour companies run daily visits. A large visitor centre at the site features a walking circuit which allows visitors to view the southern flank and the east facing edge of the glacier.

Blue ice occurs when snow falls on a glacier, is compressed, and becomes part of the glacier. Air bubbles are squeezed out and ice crystals enlarge, making the ice appear blue.
Small amounts of regular ice appear to be white because of air bubbles inside them and also because small quantities of water appear to be colourless. In glaciers, the pressure causes the air bubbles to be squeezed out increasing the density of the created ice. Large quantities of water appear to be blue, as it absorbs other colours more efficiently than blue. Therefore, a large piece of compressed ice, or a glacier, would appear blue.

I thought I would post a shot of the glacier where my son and daugher in law were married. Until I get their approval I wont post any actual shots of the wedding. It was certainly a different place for a wedding ceremony and the memories I shall treasure always. If you look closely you can just make out 2 people at the edge of the glacier - I left them in to give a sense of scale.
Here you can see the toe of the Athabasca Glacier.

A “selfie” at Dart Glacier near Cascade Saddle in Mt Aspiring National Park, New Zealand. I last hiked/tramped here in February 1979. It has changed a little bit but not as much as I would have thought. Will post photos from 1979 when I get home.

[EN] A fresh photo (even frozen) from last week in Iceland, the mecca of landscape photographers. I enjoyed a lot but I have to say Iceland looks better on pictures than in real life. The scale of things is not outstanding but there is a great variety of nice places. One of my favorite places was Jokusarlon lagoon where ice chunks from the glacier float until they melt.
Our lunch spot overlooking the Raven Glacier, not far below Crow Pass.
If you're day hiking from Girdwood, I'd continue over Crow Pass to the views on the north side before heading back.
The Aletsch Glacier, Aletschgletscher in German, stretches into the distance, the largest glacier in the Alps at 23km long. This view, taken in the summer from the Mönchsjoch Hut trail (a col between the Jungfrau and the Mönch mountains) forms part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which is accessible by the Jungfraujoch Railway Station via the 4.3 mile long Eiger tunnel and Kleine Scheidegg.

Had an amazing trip up to the Columbia Icefields in Jasper. The bus drove up the Athabaska Glacier where we were surrounded by many beautiful peeks and other smaller glaciers.

Getting to this exact spot without slipping was something only a penguin could do.
Imagine hard packed ice that is somewhere between the density of diamond and a collapsed star that is covered with a fine mist at 32.01 degrees. And then imagine walking on that in tuxedo shoes. Also, you are carrying an eight pound camera with a tripod that has roughly the same dimensions and weight as a flagpole.
But, all in all, this turned out very nice, with the ice-green glacier in the background.

Hubbard Glacier, Alaska squeezes towards Gilbert Point on May 20, 2002 The glacier is close to sealing off Russell Fjord at top from Disenchantment Bay at bottom.
The longest source for Hubbard Glacier originates 122 kilometres (76 mi) from its snout and is located at about 61°00′N 140°09′W, approximately 8 kilometres (5 mi) west of Mount Walsh with an altitude around 11,000 feet (3,400 m). A shorter tributary glacier begins at the easternmost summit on the Mount Logan ridge at about 18,300 feet (5,600 m) at about 60°35′0″N 140°22′40″W.
Before it reaches the sea, Hubbard is joined by the Valerie Glacier to the west, which, through forward surges of its own ice, has contributed to the advance of the ice flow that experts believe will eventually dam the Russell Fjord from Disenchantment Bay waters.
