walking the roman road, colonno just below, summer sky above, glacier having been this way, carved this beautiful scar in the earth, made its impression as it snaked toward the sea.

Athabasca Falls in September when the flow is low. This falls is not known so much for the height of the falls (76 feet, 23 metres), as it is known for its force due to the large quantity of water falling into the gorge. Can be tough to get a shot from this spot in the Spring. Lots of misty and spray.

Another must stop along the Icefields Parkway, which is in view on the other side of the river.

Many thanks for taking a look!

A typical valley carved through the mountains by glacial erosion, forming a characteristic U shaped valley. This spectacular shot taken from the helicopter cockpit. This shot is best seen at full size.

5 km after the bridge over the Río Hermoso, we arrive at this lake with its dark blue waters, where it is possible to practice water sports such as kayaking or canoeing.

A natural lookout also offers a beautiful panoramic view.

Here is another shot of a close up of an iceberg. I have done nothing to change it. I noticed an incredible smoothness to the surface along with all those wonderful patterns.

Jökulsárlón Lagoon is a huge glacial lake at the foot of Breiðamerkurjökull Glacier. This is where all of the ice comes from that makes up the famous Diamond Beach. As far as we can see, there are huge blocks of ice slowly breaking down until escaping to the sea.

In Iceland, I was amazed by the landscapes shaped by the glaciers. Especially, the magnificent rivers that descends from them. It was quite difficult to shot them, because the best view was from the narrow bridges where two cars do not cross, so it was impossible to stop. I tried to shot a glacial river from the car on move, hence the blur of motion.

The Laugavegur is a famous trekking route in South-West Iceland from the hot springs area of Landmannalaugar to the glacial valley of Þórsmörk . It is noted for the wide variety of landscapes on its 55 km (34 mi) path. The route is typically completed over 2–4 days with potential stops at the mountain huts at Hrafntinnusker, Álftavatn, Hvanngil and Emstrur. An ultramarathon is held on the route each July. It is possible to combine the trek with the Fimmvörðuháls route which goes over the pass from Þórsmörk to Skógar for an additional one or two days or an additional 25 km (16 mi). Landmannalaugar, Þórsmörk, and Skógar are all reachable by bus during the summer. A bus from Hella connects with Álftavatn once a day during the summer.

Lago de Enol/Enol Lake - this glacial beauty is one of the two highland lakes in the Western Massif of the Picos mountains in Asturias. It is next to the smaller Lake Ercina and together, they are known as the Lakes of Covadonga.

Glacial ballad

“Ice is most welcome in a cold drink on a hot day.

But in the heart of winter, you want a warm hot mug with your favorite soothing brew to keep the chill away.

When you don’t have anything warm at hand, even a memory can be a small substitute.

Remember a searing look of intimate eyes.

Receive the inner fire.”

Ледниковая баллада

Слишком поздно я понял, насколько

Стал глубок наш разрыв по судьбе.

Разбивается сердце в осколки,

И на каждом - тоска по тебе.

From a camping trip over the weekend. This was the scene that drew us there in the first place. Once there though there is so much else to see.

The granite boulders have an other worldly quality which makes the whole landscape quite fascinating.

I drove several hours under the rain but, arriving at Jökulsárlón glacial lake, I had this nice gift : the clouds dispersed for the sunset.

Last August, while my wife and I were visiting family and friends in Vancouver, I took this photo while we were hiking at Joffre Lakes with our friend Yasushi.

Skaftafellsjökull calving. Not as majestic as Solheimajökull but fascinating in its own way.

I shot this at Lake Windermere, Cumbria England. It is the largest natural lake in England. It is a ribbon lake formed in a glacial trough after the retreat of ice at the start of the current interglacial period.

Iceland. Summer 2014

Jackson Glacier is the 7th largest remaining glacier in GNP. (There are only 25 remaining glaciers in the park compared to 150 in 1850). This was taken on easy pullout view on the Going to the Sun Road. We almost didn't stop at this overlook because we thought it wouldn't be worth the view. How wrong can I be? The trees seem to open up just enough to frame the dying giant. I will forever be happy to say that I was there to witness them before they disappear. It seems nothing stays for long in the world we live in. Get out there before it's too late.

Johns Hopkins Glacier - Glacier Bay National Park in Alaska.

A typical view seen near the top of Beartooth Pass. The flat plateaus, alpine cirques, U-shaped valleys and lakes of the Beartooths were sculpted by glaciers. Truly a remarkable and fascinating geological wonder.

A trip over the Beartooth Pass is not only a soaring adventure via car, it is a trip back in time to some of the earliest glimpses of Earth history. This is history you can stand on, with some of the oldest rocks on Earth, uplifted to their present height by tectonic forces and Yellowstone’s thermal buoyancy, and finally artistically shaped by persistent weathering and glacial erosion.

Thanks for taking a look. Always appreciated!

Have a wonderful Friday and weekend!

Iceland is a special place for a lot of photographers and I am no different. The dance of clouds amidst the glaciers and volcanoes will excite even the most uninitiated, let alone folks who wander in search of that special light...

Our trip was especially tiring as it was end of June/beginning July where the daylight pretty much sums up to about 23.5 hours. The sun merely takes a slight dip into the horizon before launching itself back up again. This means, if you are serious about getting a decent photograph during the golden hours, you are looking at about 1AM - 3 AM! Couple that with turbulent weather, and you will be chasing good weather in the wee hours of the days...

This was shot near Mjóafjarðarvegur, a glacial lake with some ice melting in the horizon situated right by the roadside.
