git mergetool -- I'm sorry.. I'm supposed to do What? by justlooking

..and in case you didn't know either: on the left is the local file, on the right is the remote ("to be merged in"), and in the middle is the confused merge in progress. You edit the middle pane to look like you want the resulting, merged file to look (removing the >>>>>>s and the HEAD and whatever other git meta). Save it, and mergetool is done!
