Michael Cunningham, 20, and his girlfriend Lea Hollaway, 18, ride the light rail to downtown Denver from Urban Peak, a shelter for homeless youth in Denver, where the couple stays from time to time. Being homeless is difficult for the pair, but they strive to stay together and support each other.
Michael was taken from his alcoholic father when he was three-years-old and placed in at least 42 foster homes by the time he was emancipated in February 2008. His mother disappeared when he was around 3. After leaving foster care, he was unable to hold down a job and wound up on the streets.
His last foster home was with Lea's aunt, where the couple met. They have been together over a year now and have struggled to find a stable place to live. The Couple has slept on friend's couches, in shelters, in cheap motels, while trying to get a grip on their lives and stabilize, something neither of them learned from their parents or their brief stays in foster homes.
Lea's mother, a crack addict died when she was 6, and she was taken into the system at 2. After living in a series of foster homes, she was adopted, but Lea started to run away when she turned 13 and was asked to move out by the time she was 16

Bought my girlfriend a camera that can shoot and create panoramic stitches. She took this flick one day while cruising around the city.

Not to be taken too seriously, it's sort of an inside joke:
I met a really nice photographer after the show last night. We were talking about how long we have both been shooting and other photo stuff. He jokingly said something along the lines of “must be nice to have the girlfriend pass” meaning that my boyfriend is in a band and I get special privileges and whatnot. It got me thinking. Yes, I tend to get into shows for free (and save about 5 bucks at most), but other than that, I’m on my own. If you ever see me at the show I’m hardly ever hanging out with my boyfriend, I’m too busy trying to capture the night. I push my way to the front, I get kicked in the head and I always get shoved around just like anyone else. Yeah, If it gets too rowdy I will try and find a spot where I wont hurt myself or my camera; sometimes that means the stage, but I do this on my own. I don’t get a lending hand pulling me up. Everything I’ve ever done I’ve done on my own. My boyfriend is my #1 fan as I am his and we support each other in what we do. If he needs photos, I’m the first person he asks because he is a fan of my photos. But I started taking photos before I even knew his name. I started taking band photos in the 90’s at the pch club, I did this on my own; I published my own zine with my photos in 1996..I did this on my own.
I have a really sore, tore up leg from the show last night…I did this on my own.
