a guy called Nemo said he needed help fixing damage to one of his tanks. I offered to help since I am nifty at fixing stuff. Suddenly a loud bang echoed from inside as he closed the door . A pale strange sinister look came across him. He started filling up the tank with water AND LAUGHING HISTERICALLY, OBVIOUSLY HE IS A MAD MAN!. I am fortunate that I was wearing Gillyweed. AT least I have some sense! But I am way too trusting, especially as he was a looker... Please help me! I don't know how long I can hold out for. Plus I am losing shopping time being stuck in here!

Severus Snape. From all my favourite characters of all Harry Potter books, he is my most favourite. I’m glad that I managed to dedicate one vignette to him.
In the film series, he was brilliantly portrayed by the late Alan Rickman. Mr. Rickman was a most impressive and versatile actor and I appreciated his work since 1988, when he appeared in ‘Die Hard’ and stole the show. He managed to make ‘annoyance’ into an art form.
This one is for you, Mr. Rickman, wherever you are.
When I was finished putting everything into Snape’s store room (bottles, table, minifigs and barrel), I realised that it became hard to spot the round wall properly in the background, so I’ll post a picture of the empty room on my twitter account and leave the link here in the comments below.
This store room is different from the one shown in the film, but I wanted to come up with my own design, especially for this vignette.

This is a small Bee Fly (order Bombyliidae, Diptera) approaching a new flower of native Sticky False Gilyflower (Allophyllum glutinosum) in the Polemoniaceae plant family in our canyon. (No relation to gillyweed in Harry Potter 4! I've never actually heard anyone use this name.) It's a remarkable summer plant that's just starting to flower and will probably continue until September or later. It's a remarkable fly too. It looks like a small version of the larger genus Bombylius flies that we get in mid-winter, see this photo, so maybe it's the same genus? At least I guess it is in the same tribe Bombyliini of the subfamily Bombyliinae. The fly won't actually land on the flower, but it will perch on its front legs while keeping in the air - see this photo. (East Camino Cielo, Santa Ynez Mountains, 28 May 2017)
I'm still feeling crummy with a cold, but it was a nice day to feel crummy on! It was sunny all day with temps in the 70s and modest breeze. Tomorrow sounds like more of the same.

Having Apprentice around is turning out to be not so bad after all. Yesterday she found some sort of herb called gillyweed, which allowed us to breath under water. After obtaining the crystal she used her magic to make a sunken boat rise to the surface. Noccio fixed the holes in the boat hull and off we were to Hogwarts school for Wizardry and Witchcraft. I wonder if Apprentice went there when she was a kid. And if she did, why is she now Scarlet Witch’s Apprentice and not a Witch herself… So far she refused to talk about it. On our way towards Hogwarts, me and Noccio had to set across each other due to the size of the boat. We talked and talked for what seemed to be hours. Appears we have quite a lot in common. We both didn't have the most pleasant childhood. I was cursed from the day I was born. Noccio never was born. He was sculpted by a toy maker called Gepetto who then wished upon a falling star that his puppet would become a real boy. The Blue Fairy heard his wish and granted it. Noccio had to prove himself to be brave, truthful and unselfish and to tell right from wrong by listening to his conscience. After disobeying his father one time the Blue Fairy cursed Noccio. Each time he would tell a lie his nose would grow. After a whole series of adventures Noccio proved himself to be worthy of becoming a real boy and the Blue Fairy turned him into a real boy. When Noccio turned 21, she came to regret that decision, turned him back into a puppet and planted him by the side of the road. He started to grow roots and branches and couldn't move. If it wasn't for us he would have turned into a talking tree.

Ghillie will be two years old in ten days, along with a bunch of his flickr flatcoat friends! Pipit, Linus, Patty, Zip(!!!), Zin, Orion, Lanner, Melody, Riley, Chilly...all born on or around the 28th of March, 2006. I hope I didn't leave anyone out!
I think the Ghillie is beginning to come together a little bit but still has some growing up to do. I'm figuring that maybe in about two or three more years he will look like he is supposed to! Maybe he will even have some hair, although his coat is thick his feathering is not, except on his tail! LOL
He has his good points and his faults, but at the end of the day, he's my best dog! (Penny is a girl so is not insulted by this remark.) :)

Here are two shots of a tiny Bee Fly (order Bombyliidae, Diptera) working a new flower of native Sticky False Gilyflower (Allophyllum glutinosum) in the Polemoniaceae plant family in our canyon. It's an interesting fly because I don't think I've seen it anywhere except on these summer flowers. It looks like a small version of one of the larger bee-size flies that I find later in the summer like this one, so maybe it's in the tribe Villini? This fly does have a long proboscis, but you can see just a bit of it entering the flower on the left. The two shots are probably different flies - male and female? The plant is interesting too. Despite the common name, it is no relation to gillyweed in Harry Potter 4! (I've never actually heard anyone use this name.) It's also called Sticky False Gilia. It's a remarkable summer plant that will continue to flower until September or later - on no water at all. Hah - I was trying to get a photo of the flowers on a breezy day when the fly flew right into my photo - and then it happened again! I've already used up my two photo limit for the Fly Day Friday group, but HFDF anyway! (San Marcos Pass, 20 July 2018)

"This month you will be learning about Gillyweed.
Gillyweed is a magical plant native to the Mediterranean and resembling a bundle of slimy, grey-green rat tails. When it is eaten by a human witch or wizard, one grows gills and webbing between the fingers and toes.
When harvesting their gillweed students should pay close attention to they way bubbles of oxygen cling to its roots. This month we will be working on some new techniques for harnessing these bubbles.
Knitters and crocheters should show off some bobbles or nupps, and spinners try your hand at a slub yarn."

Loveswildflowers for Gryffindor here handing in my Herbology homework:
For your approval, here is evidence of my intensive work with the herb gillyweed. Being enrolled for an Owl in potions, I was able to procure some gillyweed which I chewed in order to go exploring for an hour in the Hogwarts Lake. What an amazing experience it was - I must tell you! Thankfully I was able to avoid the giant squid and evade the grindylows. My - they are pesty little buggers! However, I did find that the relashio spell did keep them at bay. It was a lucky thing that I had read about Harry’s explorations in the Goblet of Fire.
The highlight of my trip was meeting the merpeople. I discovered that they can be quite friendly if you sing to them. Here’s a photograph of a young mermaiden I saw hiding in the weeds.
Note her clever use of gillyweed bubbles - she has attached them to her tail fin for buoyancy.
This was my first time crocheting anything like this - I just learned to crochet a circle for Divination. I am much more of a knitter and I already knew how to make knitted bobbles - I thought it would be fun to learn something new and have a go at Crochet Bobbles. I based my mermaid on a Crocheted Butterfly Necklace pattern from Crochet Me website and then used part of a crochet flower pattern to which I added crochet bobbles for the tail fin.

It's a summer plant that's just starting to flower and will hopefully continue until September or later. Last year, I found the first flowers on April 11, so it seems to be right on schedule. It's a minor flower, but I love these summer plants that keep the insects going all through our summer-dry season. (San Marcos Pass, 20 April 2016)
