The Hunza is a mountainous valley in the Gilgit–Baltistan region of Pakistan. The Hunza is situated north/west of the Hunza River, at an elevation of around 2,500 metres (8,200 ft). The territory of Hunza is about 7,900 square kilometres (3,100 sq mi). Aliabad is the main town while Baltit is a popular tourist destination because of the spectacular scenery of the surrounding mountains like Ultar Sar, Rakaposhi, Bojahagur Duanasir II, Ghenta Peak, Hunza Peak, Passu.

Snow Lake, or Lukpe Lawo, is a high-altitude glacial basin in the Karakoram mountain range, located 16,000 feet (4,877 m) above sea level, and is approximately 10 miles (16 km) wide. The basin lies at the head of the Biafo and Hispar glaciers, which spread down from the Hispar Pass in opposite directions, forming a 61 mile (100 km) river of ice that is among the world's longest continuous glacier systems outside of the polar regions.
Hispar Pass (or Hispar La) (el. 5,128 m./16,824 ft.) is a high-altitude, non-technical mountain pass in the Karakoram Range in Pakistan. At the pass, the Biafo Glacier (63 km. long) and Hispar Glacier (49 km long) meet to form the world's longest glacial traverse outside of the polar regions, 100 kilometers in length..

Biafo Glacier, the third longest in the world outside of the polar regions, is a 67 km (42 mi) long glacier in Karakoram Mountains, which meets the 49 km (30 mi) long Hispar Glacier at an altitude of 5,128 m (16,824 ft) at Hispar La (Pass) to create the world's longest glacial system outside the polar regions. This highway of ice connects two ancient mountain kingdoms, Nagar (immediately south of Hunza) in the west with Baltistan in the east.

Gilgit, which spread over an aluvial plain of Indus, is the capital city of Gilgit-Baltistan. It looks like an oasis town.
It is a transportation hub to Hunza, Scardu, and Chitral, and a base for trekkers and mountaineers to Korakoram range.

Hispar Glacier is a 49 km (30 mi) long glacier in the Karakoram Mountains of Gilgit–Baltistan, Pakistan which meets the 63 km (39 mi) long Biafo Glacier at the Hispar La (Pass) at an altitude of 5,128 m (16,824 ft) to create the world's longest glacial system outside of the polar regions. This 100 km (62 mi) highway of ice connects two ancient mountain kingdoms, Nagar (immediately south of Hunza) in the west with Baltistan in the east.

K2, the second highest mountain in the world, is known as the Savage Mountain due to the extreme difficulty of ascent. It has the second-highest fatality rate among the eight thousanders. With around 300 successful summits and 80 fatalities, about one person dies on the mountain for every four who summit.

Gilgit Airport! The city of Gilgit is one of the two major hubs for all mountaineering expeditions in the northern areas of Pakistan. Many tourists choose to travel to Gilgit by air since road travel between Islamabad and Gilgit by the Karakoram Highway takes nearly 15 hours in car and 24 hours in bus, whereas air travel takes only about an hour.
Because of its short runway located at the edge of a slope, even Boeing 737s and similar-sized jet aircraft cannot operate at Gilgit Airport. Currently Pakistan International Airlines operates ATR 42 aircraft on the Gilgit-Islamabad route. Other aircraft that operate at the airport include the military Lockheed C-130 Hercules.
