This is my second day here in Abidjan, I am beginning to relax a bit and have time to reflect on the hectic events of the last 10 days.

Another display that had me wonder struck. Here is painting inside bottles and glasses. Now I've seen ships inside bottles (Mauritius, France), sand art inside bottles (Dubai), but this is the first time I am seeing paintings inside tall and narrow bottles. Wonder how that gets done! A man approached me saying 'painting inside glass', but I took a picture and moved on. As I said earlier, living a bachelor's life in a single room does have it's limitations. I prefer to collect my memorabilia through pictures. At any rate I still had to do Longji, Shanghai, Huangzhou and then two stops in India, so I wonder if the bottle would have reached Dubai in one piece. And that would have been a total waste of someone's artistry, hard work and devotion. Detailed notes about the Yangshuo West Street appear in detail in previous captions. Taking a wrong turn had it's plus points- I ran into these off duty sales girls who were quite happy to chat with me. Having finished with the Bayon temple, which is one of the Angkor era temples in Siem Reap, Cambodia, I took a wrong turn and ended up behind the temples rather than take the path in front of them, where my by now worried and rather pissed tuk tuk driver said he would meet me. Having gone through a very traumatic breakup just a few weeks prior, I was still coming to grips with solo travel. The Angkor temples area is over run with rather rather pushy- sometimes exasperatingly pushy[ kids trying to sell you stuff. These two lasses were off duty I think, as they were sitting around behind the temple. After a little bit of a push- I did buy a bottle of water from them- they were quite happy to sit and chat with me awhile. And as with most countries in SE Asia, the girls are generally more smart, more outgoing and more friendly than the males. (I have experienced this in China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and in the Philippines). Just small talk, but it was good to talk with the locals. I am actually within the ruins of the ancient walled city of Angkor Thom, detailed notes about which appeared earlier in this album. (see previous pictures). I do not recall the temple which is behind us- it's near the Bayon though. (Siem Reap, Cambodia, Oct. 2008)

A pair of simply charming off duty sales girls- when not on duty hustling people to buy their wares, they are very friendly and quite happy to chat with you. I am the ruins of the ancient Khmer city of Angkor Thom, in Siem Reap, Cambodia. I have ended up here after a wrong turn which led me through the back yard of some of the Angkor temple ruins- actually literally. Detailed notes about the Angkor Thom ruils appeared earlier in this album (see previous pictures earlier in this album). So as the two lasses were off duty, they were not overly pushi- I did buy a bottle of water from them though. One of them shied away the moment I took out my camera (and it was a simply point and shoot one in those days- 2008), but another one soom took her place, and gave me a real killer smile. We chatted for a few minutes- why I am alone, why I am not buying trinkets for any ladies etc- but it was quite interesting to talk to them. I had just suffered a rather traumatic breakup just two weeks prior, and was beginning to learn the ropes of solo travel, including interacting with the locals. I was beginning to enjoy this! Solo travel was something I was destined to do for another twelve years- from 2008 right until 2019, after which I retired and am more or less static how. Although I am now much older, I do hope to resume some day soon. (Siem Reap, Cambodia, Oct. 2008)

these claws came from my boyfriend, who is a biologist and hunter ... the animals are harvested legally and is necessary to keep the population healthy ... i consider myself as a recycler of sorts ...

Coconut painting on West Street. I've seen coconut carving before, with orang utans and bearded men carved out of coconut shell, as well as musical instruments made of them. This this is the first time I am seeing the coconut cut to expose the white flesh inside and then painted on. I wonder how long these would stay and how convenient it would be to carry a coconut which is constantly shedding flakes from it's hairy skin. The paintings would also probably be prone to dirt and staining like the one on the left, due to the coconut water and oil still present in the flesh.
