Independence Hall is the birthplace of the United States. It was within its walls that the Declaration of Independence was adopted on July 4, 1776. It was here that the Constitution of the United States was debated, drafted and signed in 1787 - and became effective in 1789.
Independence Hall Facts:
The basement once served as the city's dog pound
The second floor was once home to Peale's museum of natural history.
Ben Franklin would occasionally trip other delegates from his aisle seat as they walked by.
George Washington, knowing that his opinion would carry undue weight, contributed little to the debate over the Constitution.
Even though the days were very hot in the summer of 1787 when they debated the Constitution, the windows were kept closed so others could not overhear their discussions.

Found an abandoned train yard while hiking the switchback trails in the Lehigh Gorge near Jim Thorpe, PA. There are a ton (no pun) of trains here in various levels of decay. It is a photographers paradise.
If you are near the PA Poconos, I really recommend a bike or hike trip on these trails. They will drive you to the top and there is a 2° downhill slope all the way to the bottom.

The Liberty Bell, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania - iconic symbol of American independence. It originally cracked when first rung after arrival in Philadelphia, and was twice recast by local workmen John Pass and John Stow, whose last names appear on the bell. In its early years, the Liberty Bell was used to summon lawmakers to legislative sessions and to alert citizens to public meetings and proclamations. Most historians believe it was rung to summon people to hear the public reading of the Declaration of Independence on July 8, 1776 (4 days after the document was completed). The Empire State Building on a foggy night
The Empire State building stood as the world's tallest building for 40 years, from its completion in 1931 until construction of the World Trade Center's North Tower was completed in 1972. Following the September 11 attacks in 2001, the Empire State Building was again the tallest building in New York (although it was no longer the tallest in the US or the world). The Empire State Building is once again the second-tallest building in New York since the new One World Trade Center reached a greater height.
Today's GF Daily theme is: Towers/ Skyscrapers. I may be old-school, but I think that the Empire State Building is still my favorite skyscraper. I remember visiting the building when I was a little kid. To this day, I remember exactly what it felt like looking over the top at the city down below. The ground was a long way away and that visit was a long time ago…
